Does the 1714 know my gearing?
Does the 1714 know my gearing?
I just purchased the 1714 from Troyer (great service!!! got the Airraid too) and was curious, when I get it, do I select 3.73 gearing or do I select "Stock"?
My truck is an 04 FX4 w/3.73 gears.
Any help?

Hey Guys, let me see if I can put a little light on this for you.
The axle ratio that was built into the truck at manufacture time is on the sticker on the drivers side door jamb, it's coded for the type of vehicle (f-150 in 2000 is B6 for 3.73 gears).
Now for the 1715 & 1714 tuners if you select anything other than stock in the axle or tire size question the pcm will take that as a non-standard answer (even if what you enter is the correct size or ratio), and set a code of P1635. This will not turn on the Check Engine Light or do any harm, the code is just set and if you read the pcm for DTC's it will apear every time you read the pcm. Return to the word stock will get the pcm to erase that
So, if you "think or don't know" for sure that truck has changed it's gearing, then enter the ratio that matches your axle(or axles) ratio and drive with a smile knowing the pcm is using the correct data table for powertrain calibration.
Hope this helps and data is correct (I based this on a 2000 F-150)
the axle code and P1635 code may change with model year and truck size.

Hi Colby,
This will all be covered in the installation manual for your Micro Tuner, so you'll want to take your time & thoroughly read it's instruction manual before attempting to install it.
You don't use the Micro Tuner to recalibrate the speedometer unless you have actually changed gear ratios or have installed tires that are a different size than what came on the vehicle.
What "triumphman" mentioned in his post is right on the money - it's going to first "read" your PCM's stock factory program and store it, and then it will do an internal lookup in the 1714 Micro Tuner to see which of it's hundreds of different programs precisely match the original factory program - it can't change ANYTHING if it doesn't find that match. The Micro Tuner isn't just going to go in and arbitrarily tell the PCM that you have different equipment than what that truck came with from the factory - the ONLY way any of the gear ratio or tire size info ever gets changed is if YOU go into the Options menu and manually change it.
So don't worry, this is going to be pretty easy!
