6600 Chip in the making!!!!!
Well I got bigger tires 2day so now I need a chip to compensate and decided to get the 6600. I called up Troyer Performance and got the ball rolling. It takes a minute for them to get the chip programmed. I'm looking at bout a week and a half so if your thinking bout it then have that in mind. While I was on phone with them they had calls rolling in so everyone must be getting chips.
Hi ScrewedUP,
Thanks for your order!
In reading your post, it sounds like perhaps I should explain a bit about what "custom tuning" actually means, what is involved, etc., and how & what we do here at Troyer Performance, so I'll give you a bit of info on this process.......................
We "have calls rolling in" constantly because we have been in this business for many years and we are very well known for being F-150 platform performance specialists. So our phones are virtually always ringing, just as they should be in any healthy company. We also do a LOT more than "just" custom tuning - we do everything from tuning to superchargers to turbos to nitrous to built motors to cylinder heads to drag race suspension setups to complete turn-key drag race tracks and a lot more - as well as constant ongoing R&D - both for us as well as for other manufacturers, all designed to provide the best possible performance products for these vehicles. So yes, we do stay busy, you're absolutely right!
On the topic of how long it takes to get custom tuning from us......................
It doesn't just "takes a minute for them to get the chip programmed" - that's not even remotely close to being accurate, and NO custom tuning of ours will ever be like that. We will get it done just as quickly as we reasonably can, of course - but it may not be what some people call "quick" - like the same day, etc., that just wouldn't be custom tuning. For example, we don't just sit here loading someone else's programs into a chip and send them out in 5 minutes in custom tuning. It takes hours of work for us to do a set of 4 custom tunes in the 6600 like you ordered for the "average" modified F-series truck or SUV owner that comes to us - and every custom tuning customer gets their tuning done in the exact order that they get their custom program worksheets filled out & faxed back to us. That process gets started when the customer fills out the custom program worksheets and faxes them back to us - *then* their order gets placed in line with everyone else's and gets done in the order they are received.
The timeframe you mentioned is exactly right at this time - right now it's taking roughly about 10 business days from the time we get your custom program worksheets back until the time we have completed your custom tuning and it's actually ready to ship. Sometimes it's a little quicker, but I wouldn't count on it. That timeframe also changes depending primarily on where we are in the racing season - we support a LOT of professional racers for example, people whose livelihood depends on our tuning - so at both the early and late parts of racing season, the custom tuning orders are coming in hot & heavy.
You're getting your order in at a pretty good time by the way, as right now there isn't a really big backlog of tunes - in a few weeks we'll be getting into the last part of the racing season & things will take a little longer - so your timing on this is pretty good!
I would say that anyone looking for "quick" tuning to ship right away probably needs to buy our standard off-the-shelf type of chip or Micro Tuner, as we can ship those out the same day in most cases. Those products are for those who just want a decent performance tune that will give them more power & performance - those who want the *best* tuning with the highest power & performance gains are generally happy to wait a week or two for our custom tuning - which is what you ordered. (And I'm glad you did, as that will get you the largest power gains, best performance & mpg as well as driveability, etc).
I hope this brief info helps the understanding of "custom" tuning a little bit better, & if you have any questions please just give us a call at our number listed below.
In the meantime, thanks for your post & thanks *very* much for your order - best of luck with your truck & we look forward to making you happy with your new custom tuning!

6600 Install??????
Ok Mike I have been reading a few post where peeps are having problems with the contacts between the chip and the computer. Do you have any install tips on this cause I want to avoid this problem at all costs. I have read the how to post on the chip installation but is there anything you can add. I know you should tape the chip to the module once it is installed to prevent it from coming loose due to bumps and rattles. Give me some contact cleaning tips.
We provide complete documentation & installation instructions with every chip we ship, so you'll get all of that info with your chip.
This is also a bit different type of module than what you are referring to, in that it's not *external* to the PCM like the older style single-bank blue Superchip modules were - this type tucks completely up into the PCM, and the only thing that is external is simply the cable that runs from the chip to the program selector **** (which allows you to easily change programs), which we recommend mounting in the glove box.
One thing you'll need to know for future reference is that vendors cannot provide their customers with Tech Support here - that's against the rules of F-150 Online, which require those matters to be conducted privately, off the boards here - and of course, Tech Support for this type of thing isn't appropriate via the written word anyway, that takes far too long. So if you have any installation problems or questions about your chip, you'll need to call us rather than try to get help from us here - we can provide Tech Support *only* via telephone or in person, never in email or on a web site, etc.
Don't worry about this - as long as you carefully read & follow our instructions, you aren't going to have any problems. This is really pretty easy overall, taking about 30-45 minutes for a first timer once they have thoroughly read all of the instructions and refer to them during the installation.
The only thing we don't go over specifically in detail is where to mount the program selector ****, as that's up to the vehicle owner - given the length of the cable and the location of the PCM in these 1997 & up F-150 platform vehicles, that is very easily mounted neatly in the glove compartment.
The bottom line is you won't have problems with this as long as you read & follow our docs - and remember, we're just a phone call away if you have any questions, or just aren't sure of something, etc.
Have fun,
