Mike? Chip or Programer
Mike? Chip or Programer
Long, Long, LOONNNGGG Time reader, first time poster (on this site anyway).
Mike Troyer, Have a question (and welcome others opinion) Looking at the SCT options either the 4bank or the 9100 programer for my 2003 5.4 Supercrew. Sort of up in the air as to which is better. I like the programer because I can make minor adjustments myself and it all goes through the diag port. But I also like the chip because you can change programs on the fly with a twist of the dial. Since I am still under warranty woud it be better to use the 9100 so that if I have to take it in I could switch it back to stock without a trace, plus will the 9100 also read codes? Any help or advice would be great. Also how "dead on" are your tunes, will I have to deal with allot of back and forth (my truck is currently only mildly modded)
Thanks and glad to finally be a part of the site

Hi LowFast,
Being such a long time reader here (and glad to see you registered so you can post here with the rest of us!), I'm sure you have already read at least some of the many, many posts we've made on these same topics.
But if not, you can simply use the SEARCH feature to instantly look up & retrieve any such posts. You'll enjoy using the SEARCH feature, it has excellent filters and is easy to use.
Briefly.....................
1.) Since you've been reading here for a good while, you probably already know that our customers don't generally go thru numerous rounds of adjustments even on a *heavily* modified vehicle as long as they datalog properly (and we provide those instructions to all of our custom tuning customers with modified vehicles) - and certainly not for anything even remotely considered a "mildly" modified F-150, from the numerous posts here.
2.) Because there are only 24 hours in a day, for anything that is detailed or repetitive in nature you will need to either look it up via the SEARCH feature, or even better, just give us a call when you can and we'll be more than happy to go over everything in proper detail as we like to do with our customers.
3.) I'd go with the 9100 and the optional email update kit, otherwise you will have to return your vehicle back to it's stock program and ship your chip or tuner back to us for us to do any changes, and you will have shipping costs, too. You've seen some of the many posts here from our customers about getting their 9100's updated by us thru email, I'm guessing - and that is what I recommend for your needs as well. (It's what *I* use, too.)
4.) When you call us, we'll go over all of this with you, and any time someone orders custom tuning from us, they also get complete datalogging instructions and an Excel spreadsheet template to load their datalog info into to send back to us so we can evaluate the results to see if any tuning changes are actually required.
Best of luck with your truck, & we look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for the reply, when I am ready to buy I will give you guys a holler. And yes I am familiar with the search and have used it often. So the tune is done via E-mail and Data logging, makes sense, but I would need to find a local dyno, correct?
