91 Octane...
91 Octane...
I switch my 1714 from the 87 program to the 91 this evening. I downloaded the stock program into the truck. I then took the negative cable off the battery. (for the TrueFlow Cold Air Intake) I started the truck and all was fine. I then downloaded the 91 PERFOMRANCE program. One thing I noticed this time was when it asked for the gear, I used the arrow key to see what it was set at. It was NOT on the 3.73. I thought the programmer would of known this. The first time I used the programmer I simply punched in stock. I also measure the tires for a more accurate height. I took a screwdriver and placed it on top of the tire. I took a tape measure and measured to the tip of the screwdriver. (34.5") The first time I had put in 35". The download completed and I took the truck for a quick drive. Call me crazy, but the 87 program had lots more get up and go. The shifts in the new program were smoother, but overall the 87 ran with more pony's. Grant it I only took the truck for a 3 mile drive. I'm sure it has to relearn the new 91 program. The speedo does seem to be more accurate. The tank was EMPTY and I filled it with a good quality 91. Any idea why the 87 seemed so much more powerful?
Mike?
I might be wrong, but didn't the 1715 ask about after-market "COLD AIR INTAKE"? The 1714 had nothing about this.

Any suggestions or opinions?
I drove the truck all day today and I would still have to say the power gain was MORE noticeable with the 87 program. I know it takes a little time for the computer to do it's thing, but the 87 program didn't take that long. I have to say the speedo is now more accurate. I'm still a little concerned with the gear ratio. Another thing I was thinking about last night was.... it seems like the first time I downloaded the 87 program it save the stock program to the programmer. When I reloaded the stock and then loaded the 91 Performance program.... I don't remember the programmed taking the time to resave the STOCK program. Maybe since the stock program was on the programmer once before... it doesn't have to redo it? Mike can you help me out? Any other comments or suggestions would be great. Thank you!!
Not sure why? Anyone else feel this way?
I'm not sure why nobody posts any replies or suggestions to my concerns or questions? Did I **** the whole site off?
Mike seems to go out of his way to reply to MOST questions and concerns, but MIKE you seem to avoid my questions and concerns. I know you're NOT a fan of 35" tires and that is fine. On the other hand.... there are allot of us who DO like 35" tires. I understand my truck is NOT a rocket ship and is slowed by the fact I have 35" tires. I'm not concerned with that. I'm impressed by the 04 so far. Why in the world would I have MORE get up and go with the 87 program? Why was the 1714 not reading my 3.73 axle? The questions I've asked seem to be something others might or will ask in the near future. The 04 F150 & 1714 are NEW products, but we're all here to learn.
One other note... I've tried calling "4" different times and you were NOT available. I understand you're a very busy man, but I'm not sure what else to do.
I'm not bagging on you... you provide a great service to this forum, but you have to understand my frustration when you seems to answer 99% of all other threads concerning the Superchips.
Ok, I've vented.... I'm "OK" now.
PLEASE REPLY to my questions.
Thank you!!

I have the 1714 and am currently running the 87 octane program. As I understand it, if your truck came with 3.73 gears, then you should not custom program for 3.73 gears because the tuner already knows this from reading your stock program. If I were you, I would reprogram it but I wouldn't change the gear, just the tire size, and see what that does.
I'll do that..
I was surprised to see the programmed didn't have the 3.73 as my stock gears..... or at least that is how I read it. I towed my boat yesterday so I took it from 91 HP to 91 HP Tow. Today we're going to Reno for the night so I'll reload the STOCK and then download the 91 HP. What about the REV limiter? When it prompts for axle, I will leave it on STOCK and see what that does. I'm still a little frustrated I'm not hearing any feedback for Mike himself. His info in invaluable, but I guess I upset him somewhere along the line?
Mike... what's up?

I'm NOT bagging on Mike!!
I'm not trying to say Mike doesn't go out of his way to help anyone and everyone he can. I'm simply saying I see him to reply to threads that were started after mine. I need some help with my questions and concerns. I've tried calling, but having had any luck.
I went out of town and loaded the 91 high performance. It asked for axle and I simply took it back to stock. I don't think it's correct. It showed the 3.73, but as I went back to stock it passed the smaller axle ratio's. Shouldn't the programmer know my STOCK axle is 3.73? Maybe I need to reload the stock program and start over? If I do... do I put in 3.73 or do I simply choose stock?
On the weekend trip the truck seemed strong in the 75-80mph range. The off the line power is VERY sluggish. It simply does not seem right. I was traveling over the Donner Summit for anyone who know's the area. I drove to Reno.
I still do not know if the speedo is correct. I haven't had the chance to check it with either another vehicle or radar gun.
I hope to hear something.
My plan for tomorrow. Reload the factory STOCK program. Reload the 87 octane program and go from there.

On the top of page 8 of the 1714 Vehicle Programming Instructions, it says "Adjust gear size only if you have replaced the stock gearing." I haven't edited any of the User Option Settings on mine so I'm not familiar with doing that but the way the instructions read, when you get to the Gear Size Option, your gear size should show on the display. Then you use the <> buttons to change to a different gear.
I have the Hypertech programer III and have talk to their tech department several times about it. Unless you change the gear set you should always select stock on the gear selection and tires if they are the same as stock. I still have a problem with the odometer on my truck. If I leave it as stock it's out by .2 every ten miles. Any other tire selection makes it go out more than that.
As for the power on the 91 or 87 oct I only had the 91 programmed once and didn't see or feel any change. I have sent it back to hypertech for a version update since I had programmed the 91 oct. They did it at not charge.

Still waiting...
I'm still hoping Mike will read and give his suggestions on the issues or concerns I have. I'm very surprised he hasn't at least replied with something like.... "Call Me"
