Hi Phil,

OK, so with our 89 octane tuning for towing in that heavy van pulling 5000# thru the mountains, you're getting ~ 13 mpg.

Well, that sounds pretty darned good - we live in the mountains as well, so we know first hand how those driving conditions are with regard to MPG - not very good. Those vans (virtually all vans, for that matter) have a very restrictive intake & exhaust setup due to limited space, even more restrictive than in the trucks - so under those conditions, with our 89 octane towing tune installed, 13 mpg sounds pretty darned good.

Do you have any idea what the MPG was under those same conditions with the stock tuning, or were you able to make that kind of comparison? (just curious....)

mike i went to northern pa - then ohio then back to pgh pa- things i'd say attribute to excellent numbers to
1- van is taller than my f150 and my trailer is a tall walk -in - less frontal drag?
2- 3.73 gears versus 3.55
3- on hilss would accelerate more on the staights leading up to the hills to lessen downshifting at peak of ascent
mike i will be adding a small body 3" magnaflow muffler and a drop in air fileter if ya sell em- -i don't think even running a hose from inlet of air cleaner to side of rad an knocking out that plastic piece will add any as the intake is the bottleneck like you said-phil

wow, I haven't posted on here for awhile now..

I'm going to be driving back to Nashville, TN Friday. I'm so happy with my 9100, I've almost burned up my rear tires though. I'll post my mpg when I get back to CA. Right now, with lots of in town driving and very hard at that...I'm averaging about 18 mpg, it's unbelievable!

So that won't work. Do you have any Idea what will work for our vans? How do we open up that intake "bottle neck"? I'd like to do it and then open up the exhaust. Have any ideas? Better flow better MPG and Power sounds good to me!

Wow you are getting 18 MPG? Do you have a four wheel drive?

I have not been getting anywhere even near that mark with my 9100.

I think I need to call Mike to discuss my options.

yes 4 wheel drive...

MAC intake
3" pipe from headers back with MagnaFlow muffler
polished tb elbow and
adjusted tps...

My tac hardly ever sees above 3000 rpms once the feeling of burning the tires wore off and I realized that I gotta pay for tires when these wear down...

oh yeah, I have 3.73 gears also...I sure think that helps.

When my business gets going I'm going to get the electric fans from Troyer also, that should help a little bit too.

Some nice mods there Chevysniper. I only have the 9100 and a drop in K&N filter, so maybe that is why.

However did you happen to try out the 87 octane setting. On my truck, it seemed all systems go but when I switched to the 93 perf program, I honestly did not notice much of a difference. In fact, I think the shifts are not "as firm" as the lower setting.

I guess the biggest bummer for me is that my MPG has either been lower or about the same as b4 having the tuner. So at this point, I am not gaining any benefits of using Sunoco Ultra by spending more $$$ on gas since my MPG did not increase.

I have another trip planned for next week hopefully of about 300 miles which is mostly all highway. If it still does not get any better after this I will call Mike. Perhaps there is just something wrong with my tuning.

Other than that, I am very impressed with the 9100. Its a HUGE difference from stock.

nah, I haven't even tried the 87 tune...I didn't buy the 9100 for gas mileage improvements...or the truck as far as that goes. I'll take any improvements that come, but I was more concerned with power..I bought my wife her car for gas mileage, I just want my truck to be able to run over ricers (like my wife's car).

I was getting about 16 or so, if I wasn't hard on it before the 9100. About 14 when I was driving like an idiot. Is your truck new? How many miles do you have on it? I only have about 14 thousand and I've already changed my fuel filter, and a bunch of other things that the book didn't tell me to. Maybe you need to change your egrs or filters or something. Also I'm at 6700 elevation, don't know if that helps or hurts gas mileage.....it hurts power, I do know that.

My truck is about two years old.. Mileage, umm around 22,000 or so I think.

I changed the fuel filter at 15,000, and I run mobil 1.

I have always gotten somewhere between 13-14 mpg and that is where its always been.

I just cant fathom ppl getting 16-18 MPG with a Screw.

I'm sorry to break the news to you but I can get 17+ with a 38k, 4.6 Screw on 87 octane gas, on a run of 150 miles so far.
That's running up thru the Pocono mountains, Pa. to boot.
Use cruise control as much as you can.
I got this milage three times so far with the last time using A/C and a small mod to the inlet of the air intake from the fender to the filter housing.

Well do you set it to 55? I have never and will most likely will never acheive that.

The only thing I can think of is you guys are all setting your cc at or close to the speed limits.

EDIT: Mike T, what do you think of these MPG reports? Is this really possible?

14.75 miles to the gallon the first tank- pa turnpike to rt 70 east to md to 32 east to 175 east into odenton md- the first 200 miles i had cruise set to 10 mph above posted limit- then an avalanche came up beside me with camping gear in the bed and a 04 4x4 supercab stx-pulled them both on the steepest hill on 70 on my way to md-not once did the tranny have to leave od on the hills when cruise was set- i actually slowed up on the crest and let the old guy driving the 04 stx come up to about 97mph then i put her down- he met up with me at a rest stop and asked what the hell is in that van - i said give this guy a call-[mike troyer]-phil
