Where is the Computer on my Truck
Hi Ron,
Sure, no problem!
On the 1996 & older models of the F-150, the powertrain computer is mounted behind the Driver's kick panel. You remove that kick panel, and then the computer is mounted so that almost all of it is there behind the kick panel, except the first inch or so, which will pass thru an opening in the firewall so it can connect to its wiring harness. The computer looks like a galvanized aluminum box, rectangular shaped, 1.5" high by 6" wide by 9" long.
Good luck, & let us know if you need more help!

I orginally posted this on the engines board, the gang there mentioned posting here and that Mike may be able to help.Does anyone know where the computer is located on a 1992 Ford f-150? I've looked under the dash, the side panel on the passenger side, am I not loking up far enough or not in the exact place and about what size it is.
Thanks for any help.
Ron
Thanks for any help.

I'm gonna ask this here since this thread deals w/ 96 and older F150s.
Where can I find the computer code for my truck? I've been reading these boards for a while and have been wanting to order a superchip. Now I have the money, but I don't know my computer code.

Hi aTm,
To find the computer code in a 1996 or older F-truck, there are 3 places to look; the first place to check is to open the drivers door, and look in the front part of the door frame, in between or just under the door hinges. There you should see a sticker that has 3-4 digits, usually 3 letters and 1 number. (Note: we're not talking about the sticker on the back of the Drivers door that says "calibration" on it, that's the wrong end).
If that sticker is missing, then the next place to look is on the ECU's (that's your powertrain computer) wiring harness under the hood. That will be located on the drivers side down low, under the brake master cylinder, and it will have a single 10mm bolt head dead-center. This harness "hub" looks like it just dead-ends right into the firewall there, but that is actually where it connects to the front of the ECU. Right there where that harness "hub" meets the firewall, there will sometimes be another sticker with the code, along with some other info on it.
And if all that fails, then you can *always* find the code on the computer itself, which is located behind the drivers kick panel. Simply remove that kick panel, and then you'll see the computer, it looks like a galvanized aluminum box, about 1.5" tall X 6" wide X 9" long. It will have 1 or 2 stickers on it. Sometimes there is a smaller sticker on the back of the computer (which is the end that points towards the rear of the vehicle), and that one will have only the code on it. There will be another larger sticker on the top of the computer, with several lines of writing on it. The code will be printed in bold capitals on this sticker, so it will stand out from the other info on the sticker.
And that's about it! Let us know if you have any other questions, etc.
