Post what happens when...

what happens when....the wife has your truck, fills it with low octane (87), but your flipchip is set to high octane (92),
and she does'nt flip it back.

just curious, I don't have a flipchip yet, but I can see this happening.

Thumbs up

Hope she's not driving it hard before you get the chip flipped

Pay close attention to signs of detonation and when in doubt, flip it.

My wife put mid-grade in mine and I didn't notice at all driving around town. The engine has a knock sensor which should protect you.

Knock (aka ping, preignition, detonation) sounds like a ping or a rattle under heavy acceleration. It's not a sound you will ever forget!

Hi briguy,

What happens depends somewhat on the total effective compensation range the knock sensor system on your particular vehicle has, as they vary. On some of them, the only thing you'll notice is that your power gain went away, as there will be enough compensation range for the ECU to pull out enough spark advance to quell any tendency to detonate. And on others, with less compensation range, you'll hear the classic "pinging" sound of spark knock, or detoation, under heavy throttle, so you'll know to flip the switch.

That is is all very easy to avoid, just tell her how it operates, Side 1 = 87 octane, and Side 2= premium gas only. The switch housing is marked, and you can always, if you feel the need, put a label somewhere reminding any driver, just in case.
