Sacramento Raceway Drags 5/16/2001
Well my Dodge buddy has his 4.10 gears installed and is trying to make me pay for his repeated humiliation by me at the drags . It will definitely be closer, but he needs to shave almost a full second off his time to catch me and I don't think the 4.10 gears will get it.
So come on all you Central Valley folks come on out!

Yet another fun day at the track!! Met a guy with a white lightning (2001) he was turning mid 13's. Very fun to watch a 5K truck run that fast. Anyway down to business. I actually advanced to the quarter finals for the first time Also made my Dodge buddy realize that 4.10 gears won't help a 5.2L magnum engine much!

Hi 5150,
Hey, that's some real bracket racing, excellent! Congrats on getting to the quarter-finals!
You're getting better and better on the tree, you're starting to cut some mean lights there with those .553-.628 reaction times. Pretty soon you'll be putting a "gate job" on most of your competition, keep it up!
Oh, and good luck with the house, purchasing a home can quickly bring some activities to a screeching halt.

Thanks for the kind words. There was a nice older guy out there my first time racing and explained a few things to me. He focused on how to get the lights timed right. Basically I wait for the 2nd yellow to go out and then I hammer it. Makes it simple for me.
Ok now I'll show me rookie-ness, what's a "Gate Job" ?

Hey fitty one fitty...
Nice to see your times improving...
when will those pesky dodges learn??
Sorry to hear that you won't be out for a while... Like I stated a few weeks ago, I WILL be going out this upcomming Wednesday the 23rd.
Like I said, this will be the absolutely first time out to a drag...
Could you enlighten me as to some of the nuances of being there for the first time?
Like what to do and what n NOT to do. I'd really hate to make a fool of myself by doing something stupid.
What time should I get there to make sure that I can run?
Do you HAVE to run against somebody, or can you run just by yourself?
I noticed that you ran 6 times with the last three being elimination?
Were these just single runs?
The eliminations, I assume if the above is incorrect, that you "elimiated another driver??
5150...If you can make it great, if not I see you soon.
I will place a new thread with some just developed Pics of some nice Future Ford trucks, as well as up dated pics of mine.
And Mike, let me guess, or deduce, that a "gate job" is putting someone down at the gate. ie.. that the race is over at the gate??
And Mike if you read this post before next Wednesday, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Late...

Hi 5150 & NoDrive55,
It's an old drag racing term, and NoDrive55 got it right on the head, it's putting a "gate job" on your competitor, which means leaving them at the "gate", or the starting line, just as he said.
In professional (and bracket, etc.) drag racing, the race is won or lost at the starting line (assuming no obvious problems develop on your way down the 1/4 mile).
NoDrive55, if you'd like a copy of our quick & dirty drag racing tips sheet for Lightning owners (it's what we normally send our with Superchips for the Lightning), just shoot us an email and we'll attach a copy of it back to you. It's very basic, not for experienced racers, it just tells you how to do proper back-to-back drag strip testing to see just what the Superchip is doing for you specifically, but the technique described can be used to test other parts, etc. It also tells you how to stage consistently, so you can get the most accurate test numbers. It's good for beginners who don't know anything about staging, etc., but for anyone with experience it's very basic, of course.
If you feel it might benefit you, just shoot us an email requesting it, and we'll be happy to respond with it as a file attachment in Microsoft Word .doc format.

Hey No Fiddy Five...
Give me a ring in my lab tuesday afternoon. I would be easier to tell you than type it out. 530-752-2402 ask for Matt (someone will answer the phone as the IR-4 Lab). I should be slow (no analytical work) then so I can help you out.
Shoot, if my Dodge buddy goes out, I might just ride with him so I may still see ya. Either way give me a ring.
Have a good weekend.
Mike....Thanks for the explanation!!!

WhoooHoooo...had fun at the races.
And yes pleasure can be had from the overall experience, despite the crappy "times".
It was an experience, I got there Laaate. (ad to pick up friends)
Missed all practice runs...I therefore went in blind. Matt (5150) encouraged me to dial in at 15.80...I thought that was cool.
Get to the line, the guy tells me to move forward...I start to go to the tree...WRONG!
He meant to just move forward a bit??
Is yelling at me thru my closed window?
Matt was encouraging me to hit the second to third yellow...instead of third to green!
Since our trucks are so slow...
any way, was an experience...
Times are below:
PS: TIP of the day...
stay by you truck the entire time...
Do NOT walk off since the line is so long, and you think you have enough time to get a drink or something!!!
Pretty embarrasing when you hear a number over the PA that closley resembles yours.
Then you find out it was!
despite that and being paired up with a rice rocket with nitro for grudge match...I had a good time...
RUN 1...Elimination

Not to make any excuses... but was it hot..upper 90's

Hey NoDrive,
Everyone has to have a first time, whether it's at the drag strip or something else, and it's always a learning experience, especially the first few times at the drag strip. You'll quickly get used to the routine, and have even more fun.
There's nothing like your first time, glad you had a blast. Most people do the same basic things their first time at the track, you're not alone by a long shot!
Each time you go back, you'll have more and more fun, as you'll be more and more comfortable with what you and everyone else is doing, etc.
Congratulations on your first drag strip outing, let there be many more to come!
