Post It's IN and It ROCKS!

Well Mike and Others,

The Flip Chip is in and what can I say! The gains are 100% noticable. Like Ram says 'It's not top fuel" but boy does it bring the tranny back!
I haven't done alot of testing ( it's only been in for 2 hours ) but the shifting is superb! A nice kick between gears like it should be and the RPM hold on WOT is just what the Dr. ordered.
Kudos Mike for all your posts ( that convinced me to but this chip ) were/are right on!
OK enough said w/ such little riding but I have to add:

Mike,

The install on my truck was a little uglier than I read here and I was wondering if this is common.
Yes I had to remove the battery ( as stated in the instuctions w/ the ORP ), but also the battery tray. Not a big deal.
The computer came out, no problem, clean the contacts.... no problem, put it back in, kind of a problem.
That PITA clip would not go back in and I had to take off the mounting bracket to bend the tabs which was also a PITA. If your left handed you might not swear as much but those fine threaded bolts take forever. anyways I took it out, bent the tabs, put it back in, slid the computer back in but I could not for the life of me get that stupid clip seated back in there? So now it's wedged in there( which acuallly pushes on the chip nicely ) and the computer is wire tied for now. This probably is not normal but I ran out of time so it will have to do untill I can get back to it.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or is today just my day?
Anyway if ever you have considered " Hmm should I get a superchip?"
There is no other logical answer than YES!!!!!!!
Thanks to all here @ F-150 for the input.
Gotta go to bed so I can get up a little earlier tomorrow to superchip my a$$ around a little on the way to work!!!!!

Hi Helloe,

Great post!

I did want to point out one thing, if I understand your post correctly, and that is, we point out in our Performance Products additional instructions that you have to put that black pressure clip that holds the ECU against it's mounting bracket back on *below* the Superchip (not over top of it!), about 2 inches *below* it's original location, and that works just fine. You don't want to push against the back of the Superchip like that, as that can cause it to "tilt" (I had to go back and change that word, as the message board software thought it was a naughty word!) on the connector, or have too much pressure againt it, and either one can cause the vehicle to either not start, or possibly to stall when you hit a bump, etc.

If I understood your post correctly, you'll need to re-position that pressure clip, so you might want to go back and double-check your Performance Products documentation with regards to that aspect of the installation.
And of course, if I didn't understand your post correctly, my apologies!

Glad to hear you're enjoying it, of course. We've heard many times here people say things like they awere going to take the long way home from work, but this might be the first time (that I remember, at least) where somebody actually said they were going to wake up earlier!

Have fun,

Thumbs up

Helloe,

Sounds normal pretty much. The clip will go back in but after wrestling with that PITA bracket, (yes, those screws are about 38" long when you're pulling them out) it's probably time for a break.

The instructions cover it all very thoroughly so no, there's no secret and what you ran into is what most run into. Follow Mikes instructions, or call him for help, and you're set!!!!

I pulled the battery just to make it easier too.

And I love it too!!!!!

Hi Helloe,

Just a quick afterthought about when you're working with that pressure clip to reposition it, if there is anything you feel that we could put in our documentation to help others better with that, by all means, please feel free to shoot us an email and let us know your thoughts. We're always looking for ways to improve our documentation.

FamilyRide,
I just had to reply:

(yes, those screws are about 38" long when you're pulling them out)

I just started laughing cause that is about the best way to describe it.
Those screws made me go out and buy a set of ratchet box end wrenches. I'll show them next time!

I'm glad I'm not the only one w/ the sore left Popeye arm!

Talking

Hey Helloe,

See, I told you. What a major difference, huh. As far as the chip and clip situation. I used duct tape. Two thin slices of tape on the chip. Put the pieces on each end, an straddle the computer with them. The clip, I put a piece on the clip. You actually cover the clip with this tape. You make it long enough to stick to the bracket underneath. Then over the clip to the top side of the computer. It's a little tricky, but after a few crumbled up ***** of tape, it works great. Hasn't budged one bit. On my lip I cut it off. It kept getting in the way, so off it went. Good luck with your chip. I know you will. I see your next mod is sound. When your ready give me a yell. I finished mine about 2 months ago. It sounds gooooood. And it didn't break the bank. Talk to you later.
