Question ? for Mike...Superchip vs. LPM

Mike:
I own a '93 Taurus SHO with a Lifetime Performance Module. I have heard many stories from people that Superchips caused problems like tranmission damage, timing advanced too much, check enghine light comes on for no apparent reason, specifically with the Gen II SHO's, hence why i have an LPM. Why does the Superchip work so well for the F150, but not for the SHO? Or have the newer Superchips been corrected?

Hi Tony,

I don't know where you heard any such thing, but we have no such problems with Superchips for *any* model years of the SHO, and there are many people using them. There has not been one case of "transmission damage" with any of our SHO customers (or any customer of ours, ever, for that matter) here at Performance Products, or any other kind of damage for that matter, or any tendency to detonate or throw check engine lights in those vehicles.

At our level, there is no way the Superchip could have any such tendencies yet never happen even once to any of our SHO customers. If there were any such issues we'd have seen that long ago, and have yet to see a single case among our customers.

In fact, that product has been heartily endorsed by Gary Morrell, who was at that time (and may still be, I don't know) Senior Test Engineer for Ford Microelectronics, and an extremely well known SHO proponent, who has used the Superchip in his own Taurus SHO for years and years. He wrote a very nice letter to Superchips about that, and it hangs on the wall.

In fact, to date, we've not had a single return of any Superchip for any SHO from any customers of ours, nor have we ever even needed to adjust the program in a particular SHO, where normally with just about any vehicle, including these F-150's, we'll sometimes need adjustments to compensate for poor local fuel quality in a few areas of the country where air quality is at it's worst.

There are some areas of the country where fuel quality is an issue, and sometimes we'll see in F-150's, or any other vehicle, that we'll sometimes have to adjust to compensate for poor local fuel quality, but to date, we've never had one such problem in any of our customer's SHO's.

Superchips has been tuning those SHO's for longer than anyone else other then FOrd themselves, and has far more SHO's using the Suerchip than any other brand. They were the first to be able to program the SHO, the first to solve the driveability issues regarding IMRC's poor transition in the factory program, something Gary commented on in particular as he's a road racer type.

There is nothing deficit in our SHO programs, my friend.

Thanks Mike,
It's good to hear it from the source and get another point of view. I appreciate your input.

Hi Tony,

You're very welcome of course, anytime!

What we can tell you with certainty is what we experience with our own customers directly, and we've never seen any such issues, even once, in those vehicles.

Have fun & good luck with your SHO!
