Cool superchip.....

Here is my .02 worth about the superchip. The installation is really quite simple. I received mine yesterday and installed it in less than an hour. Started right up the very first time. As has been stated in here several times in the past, just be sure to thoroughly clean the contact points and you should have no problems. Performance Products also provides very detailed instructions in addition to the manufacturer instructions. They really went out of their way on this one fella's! Now, as for the results. It's like opening up a can of whooop ***!!! You will immediately feel a much more responsive shift. Very firm and chrisp. Knowing that I must allow the computer to relearn its programming, I filled 'er up with Ammaco 93 octane and headed down south I-55 towards Memphis. Man, that thing roared down the road. I sure didn't want a ticket so I had to contain my propensity to push it, although it seemed to be begging me to open 'er up.
NOW, I can definitely tell you that the superchip is all that it claims to be. Nothing more, nothing less. I am a very happy and satisfied owner which for me is good enough.

Grrrrrrr, where are those hated chevy and dodge clunkers!!!!!!!

Howdy!

Forrest,

It takes 1 hr to install the Superchip?!? Not exactly your average ZIF AMD Duron is it?!

What exactly is invoved other than removing the battery cable, removing the computer, cleaning the contact, installing the chip, and reversing the process?

Just curious b/c I'll be getting one next month. Days are short and nights are long.

Have a nice day.

Hi LeanNCut:

How are things down there in cow town? I miss those Aggie rivalries and the old Southwest Conference days Anyway, to answer your question, the best advice I can give you is to do like I have done and read all the posts concerning the superchip (this will give you a general understanding of what to expect and make your installation less difficult). Simply put, the superchip is nothing more than a small device (approx. 1.5"W x 3"L x 1/4"T) with female card connection that plugs into the back of your factory computer. If it weren't for having to clean the matching male contacts (which is coated with a protective sealer), then removal of the computer would not be necessary. But for the very first time you will definitely have to remove the computer and clean up those male contacts!!! As pointed out, the instructions are very detailed and precise. In my case I did not run into anything hard to perform and if I can do it, anyone can. Otherwise I don't have anything to tell you that would make things easier, etc. It isn't hard to do at all and by following the instructions and taking your time I do not think you will encounter any problems. I sure didn't. Lastly, I think you will be happy with the results.

Have a nice day!

Forrest

I agree with forrest. I put a superchip in Saturday and spent most of the time pulling the battery and cleaning the port. Otherwise, nothing to it and man what a difference.

Hi Forrest,

What in the world do you do that you're here at 4:30 am after installing your Superchip?

I'm figuring you must work shifts or something, not that is's actually any of my business. It just cracks me up to see you here posting at 4 in the morning, now *that's* dedication.

All kidding aside, congrats on getting your Superchip installed, great post!

I just got thru responding to all your emails, so it was funny to jump on here and see your 4 am posts where you had already installed the Superchip, after I just got thru responding to your emails.

Have fun on your trip, & congratulations on you-know-what!

Hi LeanNCut,

The initial installation time for the Superchip varies, some people get it done in about 30 minutes or so, and some people simply take longer, taking their time to do everything. We've had some guys post that they took 3 hours to do it (!), but you can realistically figure that it's going to be somewhere between 30-60 minutes for a first-time installer.

You have the correct basic understanding of the process. The first-time installation requries the cleaning of the contacts on the J3 male edge connector on the back of your Ford ECU. Some people doing this for the first time will take a long time to do this part, so that is usually why some people come up with longer installation times, taking their time with that, or having to do it 2 or 3 times over from not getting all the coating off the first time, etc. A 30-60 minute install time is perfectly reasonable for these vehicles on average, and most people could do a second one in half that time. After you do a few, you can do a late-model F-150 in about 15 minutes.

Just FYI.............

Thumbs up

Howdy!

Superchips_Distributor,

Thank you Mr. Troyer. I'm looking forward to this. Should be more interesting than building your typical server.

Have a nice day.

Hey Mike,

Thanks! Yep you got it right I work for a large steel mill corporation as a maintenance technician. We work a rotating schedule, working nightshift for seven weeks then rotate to dayshift for seven weeks, etc. (12 hour shift/four days on/four days off). Needless to say working at night really sucks, but who said life was easy!?! Currently I am on vacation so that's why I am on here at such odd hours, as you've noticed. Great place to hang out and make new friends!!!!!!

BTW, I really like my superchip! That's a neat little gadget and is well worth the bucks in my opinion. My g/f wants me to put one in her '98 Pontiac Gran Prix!!! LOL

Have a nice day

Hi LeanNCut,

It will probably be more fun at least, day in and day out, as the fun with the Superchip starts when you leave the server behind and turn your key in the ignition.

Of course, as soon as I say that, someone here will post that they've integrated a server into their vehicle, using it to run who knows what!
