Question Superchiping a V10 Excursion......

Hey mike,
Do you make a flip chip for the V10 Excursion? I want to be able to run 87 when i'm not towing - the gas prices here will run me broke if I have to run 93 all the time. What are the power gains like on the V10(w/87 and 93)? I have an intake and I'm planing on getting a Ravin Muffler soon. Does superchips have a website? Thank you very much.

Hi Excursion,

Yes, we sure do make Superchips for the V-10 Excursion! And yes, Superchips has their web site at superchips.com

The power gains on 87 octane aren't going to be much at all, maybe 3-5 horsepower at most, which is why 99.99% of our V-10 customers use the single-program Superchip & burn premium all the time. The power gains on premium gas are rated at a maximum of 29 horsepower and 48 lbs./ft. of torque at sea level altitude. In round numbers, think of it as a 10% power-gainer.

One thing that is a factor here is the small improvement that most people see in their gas mileage from the increased spark advance used on part-throttle in the Superchip's program. On the V-10 F-trucks, that usually runs in the range of 1.0-2.0 more mpg, all else being equal. That helps to offset some of the cost delta between 87 & 92 or 93, so that for most people driving 20K miles per year or less in a mix of city & highway driving, the increase in fuel costs from running the Superchip on premium all the time is only about $150-$200 per year, on average, a few bucks a week.

Now if you're doing heavy towing most of the time, or doing mostly city driving in stop & go traffic, that will skew those numbers of course, and you'll pay more, so it all gets down to how the vehicle is operated, and the energy content of the fuel being burned.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, and we'll be happy to go over everything with you, all the various options, etc., so you can give it some thought.

Good luck!
