Will there be a difference if I..
I own a 97 f150 with the 5.4L engine. Currently I have a hypertech power module installed on it with k&n, duals, and a powerstat.....Would it be worth the investment for me to junk my hypertech module and go with a superchip?? Im not thouroughly impressed with my hypertech and am not very optomisitc that a superchip would be any difference. Anyone have any opinions??
Hi Detail,
You're experiencing what a lot of others have already gone thru, the disappointment of a Hypertech or Jet, etc. chip.
The reason your chip doesn't work well is 2 basic factors: first, it's not programmed specifically for your vehicle, it's compromised to run on all similar vehicles. The Superchip is much different, each one is programmed to match the exact software revision loaded into each individfual vehicle's computer from the factory, and this yields a far better optimization of the powertrain program. There are 80-150 and even more different factory software revisions (or computer codes, as we refer to them) for each model year of these F-150's, and they all have different functions located in different areas of each different program, which is why it cannot be properly optimized "generically", like Hypertech, Jet, and most other chipmakers do. It's cheaper to make just 1 "generic" program than it is they way we do it, which is to make a different program for each different factory program.
The other basic factor is that Hypertech, Jet, etc. only tune the engine on wide-open throttle, that is the only time it has any chance of increasing power at all, is when you are at wide-open throttle. The rest of the time it sits there doing nothing for power.
The Superchip on the other hand tunes the engine and adds power all the time, at any throttle position, and, it adds more power than Hypertech or Jet, etc.
Superchips is the company that invented this entire industry of aftermarket performance powertrain programming, and they're the only firm of their kind to be hired for this type of work directly by the automakers themselves, and that gives them knowledge experience and resources that no other chipmamer can match.
I know & fully understand the fact that you're not happy with your Hypertech, and we understand it's only natural to think that all chips are the same, because most of them basically are! The Superchip is far different, and if you'd like to give it a try to compare, just give us a shout, our contact info is just below, and we'll be happy to go over all of this with you in detail, so you can give it some thought.

Hi Detail,
One point I forgot to mention, with the Superchip you will need to go back to your factory thermostat, which is about 194 degrees. You could use a thermostat of 180 degrees (which we don't recommend) if you wanted, but no lower.
So you would need to factor that into your decision as well, and that needs to be pointed out in the interests of fairness.
Using those low-temp thermostats is perhaps OK for the drag strip in a dedicated drag race car, but not on the street, as it takes heat out of the combustion process, and that robs power & contributes to increased combustion chamber deposits over the long haul.
Hypertech uses those cold thermostats to keep the cylinder head temperature down, in an effort to keep detonation at bay when more spark advance is dumped in at full-throttle, and prevent the ECU from retarding the spark due to detonation being detected by the knock sensor.
Your engine will make it's best power output at a coolant temperature of between 190-200 degrees, which is why even Winston Cup NASCAR stock car teams configure their cooling systems to try and keep the coolant temperature in the 200 degree range, where best power is made. For the same reason, the Superchip is designed to work with your factory thermostat in these vehicles.

I still have my factory thermostat and will stick it back in whenever i install the superchip. I believe it is a 195 degree thermostat. Thanks for the info. I'm sure ill be talking to you again when I think of another question. THanks for the help!
OK Detail, & glad you saved your factory thermostat!
