1714 Superchip easy to install?
Been reading about the 1714 programmer and I was wondering weather the programmer was easy to install and where do you plug it into? Sorry but I am pretty new to ugrading and F150's just bought mine 2 weeks ago.

Super Chip 1714
Hi jvernacchio,
Welcome to F-150 Online, & congrats on your new truck!
The "1714 Superchip" is actually a Micro Tuner, which simply plugs into your vehicle's OBD-II port (under the dash, just to the right of the driver's right knee), and takes all of maybe 10 minutes to install from start to finish. The Micro Tuner simply "flashes" the new tuning into your vehicle's PCM thru the OBD-II port - just like they do at Ford dealerships when they need to do a service update, for example. It doesn't get any easier. )
The other gentlemen kindly posted the link to our web site where you can read about the 1714 - and if you'd like to go over any aspect of it in more detail, please feel free to give us a quick call at our number listed below, OK? Thanks!
Glad you dropped by, good luck with your new truck & we hope you'll hang out here with us in your spare time!

Hey Mike!
Just put in an online order this morning for the 1714. I have a AIRAID intake system with the Poweraid TBS coming in the mail as well. My question for you is should there be different tuning on the Micro Tuner with those aftermarket intake parts going to be installed?

lose the tb spacer- a waste of money- i think if you call orders in for tuners you get a better price-- i'm pretty sure - prices cant be discussed online due to sponsor rules- mike will take care of you- trust me-phil

Called this morning and I have to wait a bit while Superchips does the Flash upgrade. I cant wait to get my hands on the tuner from what I read on the boards so far its almost 100% positive about the Tuner.
Now I have to see if I can trick the wife into buying me 4.10 gears for my birthday!

OOOOH thanks for the info Openclasspro! Any info on this new rig is much appreciated I have learned so much from this forum the past few days my head is spinning... big difference moving to a truck from my Mustang. So much to learn so little time.
Hi jvernacchio,
I like what you've done to your 2004!
For 35" tires, go with 4.56 gears - and that'll be OK for the 36" tires as well - though it wouldn't hurt to put a set of 4.73's or so in there with the 36" tires.
The point being, 4.10's are NOT enough gear for 34" or taller tires - the engine will NOT turn enough rpms like that. We recommend 4.56's for 35" tires, and that will work fine with your 36's tires, too.
The 1714 Micro Tuner for the 2004's are shipping once again, by the way. The updated 1714 units started shipping from the manufacturer again last Friday, and arrived here to us yesterday morning - so they're shipping again right now.
BTW, glad you chose Airaid for the intake as that is the ONLY intake kit we approve of for the 2004 F-150 with the 3-valve 300 HP 5.4 engine. And no, with that intake PROPERLY installed (pay particular attention to the rubber "donut" gasket that attaches on the bottom of the Airaid's air handling tube where it fits over the throttle body), that unit does NOT cause the engine to go lean, or require any custom tuning. Now the first two versions Airaid shipped for our 2004 3-valve 5.4's DID sometimes cause problems, but not what we call the newest "3rd generation" (our term, not theirs) Airaids, which have been shipping for a few months now. Good choice there!
And of course, the 1714 Micro Tuner can be used to correct your speedometer for the tires you have now, and for the gear ratio change when you do that in the future, too - so you're all set from that standpoint.
If you ever want to go over just what performance mods do and do not require custom tuning to compensate for in your 2004 F-150, give us a call & we'll be happy to go over all of that with you.
Have fun,
