Angry Has anybody tried a JET chip

Does anybody know how the JET chip compares to the superchip. I've got the JET chip and didn't notice anything with the power of the engine but I did notice the transmission shift points and firmness. Also can a JET chip be reburned for a supercharger.

1997 F-150, 4.6L, 4R70W trans with trans-go shift kit, 3.55LS, BFG All Terrains, custom cat back exhaust, custom intake mods, JET chip, K&N filters, duraliner bedliner, lund lunar visor, westin chrome side steps, vent visors, sliding rear window with vent visor, off road package, class III tow package, air dam without lights, carbon fiber dash trim, viper alarm/start system, six disc changer, 500watt memphis amp, two memphis 250 watt subs, and a seven o seven conversion package with custom leather seats, one of a kind paint job.

The JET chip doesnt even stand a chance. The superchip beats it, hands down. Plus, the superchip works all the time, not just at WOT like JET and the others.

Jet into a superchip....that's kind of like turning a chevy into a ford and vice versa. it's not possible. atleast I don't think it is.
I have a Jet chip. I like it. There is definently more power. My truck no longer has the "sling shot" acceleration. transmission improvements, I can't note on that since there is something wrong with mine. I have also been trying reg gas w/ mine and haven't noticed any adverse effects.

compare to a superchip? Everyone here will tell you this: superchip is the only chip that produces the most horsepower and works at all rpm ranges. superchip is supposed to be the best.
but you won't know until you try it yourself. personally, I'm the only one here that refuses to buy a superchip.

Hi Marc,

That's a common complaint with Jet, a lack of power gained. There are some people here who have tried both the JET and the Superchip on the same vehicle, and every one here who has used both on the same vehicle has always posted that they preferred the Superchip.

Jet (and Hypertech and most others) only make "generic" programs for each model year & engine of these F-150's (menaing only 1 program for each model year & engine size), and that type of programming cannot properly optimize your powertrain. The way we do it in the Superchip is to program it for the exact software revision in each individual vehicle's computer, as that is the only way to get a fully optimized program that is made specifically for *your* individual vehicle. These F-150's have anywhere from 80-150 and even more different computer codes (software revisions) each model year alone, and "generic" programs yield little in the way of actual power gains.

Jet, Hypertech, and most others only add power on WOT (wide-open throttle), so the only time you get what gains they produce is at full-throttle. The reason for that is the structure of the emissions laws, as during full-throttle operation there are no emissions standards that have to be met. Consequently, that is why most chipmakers only tune at WOT, so they don't have to go thru the expensive process of independantly testing & certifying for strict emissions compliance for each program like Superchips has to. This can be a bit misleading, as one of the common claims in this business is to claim that their program tunes "throughout the entire rpm range", trying to make you think that it works all the time. But the reality is that you can be at full-throttle at *any* rpm, so it's a meanlingless statement. The real key is that Jet & Hypertech are only tuning on full-throttle, versus the Superchip tuning at all throttle positions and thus adding power all the time, and it makes a difference in terms of everyday driveability and vehicle enjoyment, to say nothing of the larger power gains you'll get from the Superchip compared to the Jet unit.

All that having been said, there certainly are owners of the Jet chip that are happy, like ponysix8 is.

Can JET actually reprogram it properly for a supercharger? They might be able to, that I can't tell you, so you might want to call the manufacturer directly. I would make sure that if so, they tune it not just on full-throttle but at every throttle position if you decide to install a supercharger, as it will be very important with a blower to have it precisely tuned not only at all rpms, but at any throttle position.

If you'd like to go over any of this in detail, please feel free to give us a call.

Best of luck with your truck,

To anybody out there looking for a JET Chip.
They are fantastic chips. The 97 model for the 4.6 W/ 5 speed will work on the 2000.
They work from idle to WOT. No need to call with your computer code just give your powertrain configuration and the chip works. So anybody out there with a Superchips please keep quiet untill I unload, er sell this chip!

Kindest regards

Hello Mark,
Welcome to the board.
I have a very interesting story about the Jet Chip that I owned. If you do a search and use the key words "JET=JUNK" you can read all about it.
How long have you owned the chip? Can you return it?
Maybe JMC will buy it so he can have a matching pair. Because two is always better than one. LOL

Hi Mark & JMC & jarrettruelz88,

All kidding aside, Mark is in a situation where you guys have been before, his first chip for this vehicle is a Jet unit, and he's trying to figure out what's wrong, why he's not getting power gains and the best way to go. People in those kinds of situations don't know if this means that all chips are the same and don't add power, or if it's really just the Jet chip that's the issue, so he's just trying to do his homework to determine what he should do next, and we're glad he dropped by, so he can get some perspective from others who have used both on the same vehicle.

It's one of those situations where you just don't know until you've tried it, and many times people have already purchased a Jet or Hypertech unit before finding this web site and learning what those who have "been there, done that" have to say about the various chips, so it's quite common.

Those that have used both a Jet or a Hypertech chip and then the Superhcip on the same vehicle, like both JMC and Jarrettruelz and others here have, already know what Mark is trying to determine, so it's easy for us to talk about turning them into paperweights, etc., but it's all in good fun, and is not meant to be critical of anyone's misfortune. We don't want Mark to get the wrong impression, nobody is teasing him or making fun of his misfortune, it's just that you guys have been in that very same situation before, so you already know the deal.

We hope everything works out for Mark.

Mark,

I didn't mean to make light of your situation, hell who am I kidding, but try and get your money back and get a Superchips. I got a Jet back in 97 because Superchips didn't have one for my PCM code. Thank God I knew Mike from another Board and he was able to finally fix my problem. Night and day, Jet to Superchips.

Regards

Wink

Mark,
I certainly meant no distrepect to you.
I know how it feels to get less that you expected.
If you cant return the chip to Jet you can always sell it here in the classifieds section. I gotlucky and was able to sell mine in about 10 days.
Atleast in the future you will know what works and what to steer clear of.
Good luck
Pete

Hi JMC,

Gosh, that brings back memories, that's right, you & I "met" each other years ago, over on CIS in their automotive and then their Trucks & 4X4's Forum.

It's been awhile now, hasn't it?

It would be great if you & Neal & Dean etc. could all come down and make the Norfolk Rally this year!

Hi Pete,

You're right, and it's a long season, so our beloved Fords should have plenty of time to start posting wins, Top 5's & Top 10's, which I'm sure they will.

Good luck!
