My chip experience
Hi T Ellenberger,
Once again, excellent point. In our experience with the Superhcip and it's potential improvements to gas mileage, it's either/or, meaning, you can *either* make use of and enjoy the additional power, *or* you can drive it conservatively and get a little bit better gas mileage; but it's darn near impossible to get both at the same time, you can't expect to use a lot of heavy throttle and get better mileage at the same time.
My wife's '99 Ranger is a good example; when she's a bit heavy-footed, her mileage drops to about 16 mpg with the Superchip, which is what it was getting stock. When she drives it "normally", not using a lot of heavy throttle up the mountains out here, the mileage goes right up to 19.0 as usual, for a solid 3.0 mpg gain. The older 4.0 V-6's tend to pick up more mileage gains than most, each of our 4 different 4.0's have picked up 3.0 mpg or very close to it with the Superchip, while our other vehicles over the years have picked up less, anywhere from 1.2 mpg to 2.3 mpg or so at best.
Thanks for your perspective, T.
