Throwing down the gauntlet, diablo VS Superchips
Mike,
Now, as a Superchips distributor I'm surprised that you don't know that the ADS chip is still available and is still being sold by many warehouses
. I can give you their number if you want. The only conclusions to be drawn by everyone is that there's a lot more information out there to be learned.
You keep saying that you made it very clear that there isn't any slamming going on. I'm sorry, it wasn't that clear to me. That's why I'm asking these questions. I don't mean to upset you. I'm just looking for the right chip for me. I like doing my homework before I make any purchases.

I agree with GregS-
If anyone doesn't like the chip.......
DONT BUY IT!!!!!
Im getting tired of this argument

Brotherdave,
No, that's not what I'm saying. I spoke with the owner of the company. They are not out of business. Restructuring, from what I understand. Anyways, the phone calls I made was to find out whether what was being said was true or not. If this was common knowledge then certainly someone (at least one) would have agreed.
Blakened,
I'm not saying I like or dislike anyone's chip. I haven't tried any of them yet. All I'm doing is looking for some feedback about a new product. I thought that's what this site is for.

Fastsvtss,
I find it interesting that you mentioned you called ADS, since they went out of business last March, 10 months ago in the year 2000, making it quite clearly *impossible* for you to have spoken to them.
I'll leave it for everyone else to draw their own conclusions.
I've been very clear here, nobody's trying to slam anyone, so let's cut the malarky. Nobody is saying that they're blowing up customers vehicles, just that they smoked a couple of Powerstroke motors in their attempts at the development of a maximum power program on the 2001 PSD's, that was beyond what our "Extreme" program adds, and that just can't be done without compromising reliability, which is why we don't do it. It's not a matter of not being able to add as much power, it's a matter of how much can be added before you start compromising reliability. It all gets down to sheer raw R&D, and that is an area where they are lacking in comparison to Superchips, having been doing this for a very limited amount of time. It's easy to pour power on in a PSD, but as Tina noted in her post, it's another matter to pour on that power and still maintain strict 50-state emissions compliance and not have tons of smoke pouring out of the exhaust pipes. For those who don't care if they blow a lot of smoke out the tailpipe in a PSD, we can add much more power as well, that's why we offer 3 different power levels for them, based on how many additional mods the vehicle owner wants to do if any, mileage, their needs based on loads, etc. It's a plain and simple fact that nobody in the aftermarket programming business has as much raw R&D done on these Powerstroke programs than Superchips, and it shows in the results. And if you'll go back and read my response to you, you'll also see that I mention that I've also done some "destructive testing" too, on my own vehicles.
Fast, you like anyone else has to do whatever makes you feel most comfortable with/to your vehicle, and if for you that means going with them, then by all means have at it, and we hope it works out fine for you, I'm sure it will. The more people doing a better job in the aftermarket programming industry, which Superchips invented back in 1983 by the way, the better reputation the whole industry enjoys as a result, and that helps us all.
We wish you well,

Hi Fast,
I think it's an excellent idea for you to do your homework, by all means.
ADS did in fact closed their doors suddenly, with no warning or notice to *anyone* other than a few of their employees, in March of last year, and left their customers holding the bag, with nowhere to go for warranty issues or support. They literally disappeared, and their dealers & distributors didn't have a clue what happened to them at the time. I call that out of business, not "restructuring".
ADS, like the vast majority of chipmakers to this day, only tuned at WOT (wide-open throttle), the rest of the time they did nothing for power, just like Hypertech, Jet, etc. The Superchip is the only performance chip for these vehicles that is programmed for the exact software revision in each individual vehicle, tunes and adds power all the time at any throttle position (except idle, of course!), and still maintains strict 50-state emissions certification as well.
We wish you the best whatever you decide, as long as you're happy, we're happy for you.

BLACKENEDFORD,
You hit that nail right on the head. Open hood insert cam, slap on headers, rejet carb, bump up timing and zoom zoom zoom. Now you need a degree in electronics. I still enjoy tinkering but it has become a lot more difficult to "tune" things. You are stuck with what the factory wants or go get yourself a chip. I liked the feeling I used to get when I turned the screw just a tad more for that truly custom tune. Can't do that today. But don't get me wrong today's engines are much more efficient, produce more power per cubic inch get way better fuel economy and are much more complicated.
