Question electronic mods

I follow the Mustang forums on several boards regularly, and it seems to be almost a universal opinion that aftermarket chips are only useful when they are custom burned for a particular application where there has been a mechanical modification to the engine that requires different tuning parameters controlled by the electronics. How can an off the shelf electrical component REALLY add a lot of horsepower? If it is true that this works, show me dyno slips, because anecdotal evidence, while interesting, proves nothing.I am not attacking anyone personally and do not want to offend anyone. It just seems that if the aftermarket chips are providing good power gains, someone will have the dyno slips for bragging rights. On the Mustang boards,I see some 1/4 mile slips and some dyno slips to back up claims made about various mods.I feel this would help on this board also.I for one will spend $300 in a heartbeat for 25 horsepower,if I can have any certainty of success. That is a good ratio of dollar to HP.I apologise for the length of this post

Hi sixfan. There has been some recent controversy over chips in the past few weeks. Most of us don't have hard evidence to claim what amount of gain we have seen. However, most of us are satisfied with the seat of the pants feel and increased shift firmness. I'm taking my truck to a dyno session this Sat and I will post results. I have been very happy with my superchip thus far even though I don't know how many hp and tq I gained with it, but it feels alot better. Good luck
