Post Thanks Mike and one more question..

Hi Mike,

I just got my Expedition's computer along with the Superchip back from Superchips Inc. I installed it and it started right up. I haven't driven my Expy yet though. One thing I would like to know is what was wrong with my CPU? Should I call Superchips and ask them or can you find out for me? Again, thanks for all the help Mike.

Regards,
Robert

Mike,

I just checked at the packaging slip, and it states that Superchips "redid" the chip. What exactly does this mean? Did they mess up the first time? The vehicle code stated on the slip was the same as the previous one that I had given them. I am just curious as to what the actual problem was. Thanks.

Hi Robert,

No, there was no problem with the Superchip itself at all, I programmed it personally by the way, you simply had a computer with the jumper misconfiguration that is described in your Performance Products documentation (see "One last note" in your doc's we send with the Superchip), and so the jumpers needed to be closed so that circuit could operate as Ford designed.

This affects a few early 1999 Fords primarily, and is completely random in nature. We keep a list of all codes that have ever been affected, so we can let our customers know before they do their installation that this may be an issue, just as we described in your documentation.

Now in your case, we had never had a vehicle with your particular code affected before, as it's a pretty rare code even for California vehicles. Consequently, your code now goes on that list as well, so we can let anyone else with that code who orders a Superchip from us know.

We followed thru and knew what happened as soon as they looked at your computer, so we knew it was going to be back in time on Friday as you needed, and now you're all set!

Enjoy your new Superchip,
