So far I like the pulley set. I installed them after my other mods and I felt a increase. The truck seems so powerful on the low end, it's hard not to spin everytime I take off. Mine are from SVT Ford Motorsports. I live in south LA. and it gets 100 degrees here often, but my A/C seems to handle it well so far. Good luck I think they are worth about 10hp on the rear wheel

4 Wheeler,

I read the site almost every day to keep up on our trucks. I wanted to get a Superchip, but the wait was 4-6 weeks ( I have a 2001 Screw with a new computer code ). Diablo had immeadiate availibility, so thats the way I went. The cost was the same and I am very happy with its performance. It provides better power throughout the power curve and has helped greatly in towing my 6500 lb. boat. I have the 4.6 and needed the help. If Superchip had my chip, thats what I would've purchased. I'm sure the performance gains are very similar, but I can't imagine the customer support from Diablo rivals Mike T. and Superchips.
Good Luck,

I really have appreciated this site. Having bought my 1999 F-150 5.4 with 24,000 on it, it has had the head gasket replacement, and the water pump also. Tuesday, Dec 26th, it will be going to the dealer for possible piston slap. The motor was built on 9/98 and the body was 12/98. My main concern is arming myself with all the right information available from everyone to make sure the dealer/dealers are diagnosing correct and that I now all my options and recourse. I have read to many threads here with confusing results. I am also looking for an extended warranty plan, just for a security thing. Having been a Ford man for 30 years, I have never had so much problems till now. Thanks for any info...

Hi Harleyst,

OK, with those types of problems, you'll want to start off here by perusing the appropriate sections of these message boards, as you can find everything from TSB listings to specific issues, etc. You may have already done that of course, I don't know, so I just wanted to make you aware in case you hadn't already, to spend some time checking out each section and sub-section of these message boards. Then post your specific question in the relevant section, that is usually what gets the best results.

Regarding your piston slap, if it's a 5.4, that is a somewhat common complaint prior to 2000 models, primarily on the first start on a cold day. The engine doesn't have a history of failing as a result of that noise, it sounds like a forged piston rattling in the bore a little bit before it expenads as it comes up to operating temperatures and the clearances close up. However, Ford is normally addressing that complaint by replacing the engine, so you may well be looking at an engine replacement. Ford made a change to the piston skirt design to help eliminate that noise in newer 5.4 motors.

With regards to extended warranties, I'm personally a fan of using Ford's ESP plans rather than so-called "aftermarket" warranties like Warranty Gold, etc. The Ford ESP plans tend to cover more that matters, we looked at both ESP and Warranty Gold and other plans, that's what we felt. You have to be careful about exclusions of important systems, like air suspensions, that's a common area of no coverage in aftermarket extended warranties we found, and there are others, so it gets down to exactly which vehicle you have with what equipment to give you an exact answer for you. We found that overall, Ford's own ESP plans were the best for us.

I hope that helps a bit, good luck & Merry Christmas!
