Cool CHIP INSTALLED (Supercrew/4.6L/4x4)

The Superchip has been installed and everything is work very nicely!!!

Ran the fuel down to the fuel warning coming on...pulled into ESSO and filled up the Screw with 92 octane.

Installation of the Superchip was very simple and took about 1.5hrs...I was a bit nervous when cleaning the contacts off so not to scrap to hard and damage anything. Cleaned everything up and put it back into the truck...FIRED RIGHT UP!!!

This "little" chip completly amazes me...the truck now does not shift up and down wondering around trying to find the perfect gear, the shifts are much more "solid" and the truck now does not sound like it's labouring between gears and losing HP...every Ford is famous for this!

I had a WMS velocity tube installed prior to the Superchip and was always very noticable in sound...but now that the Superchip has been installed, this noise has for the most part disapeared due to the fact that the engine is now running much more efficient, I contribute this to less lag time between the shifts and the truck always running in the most optimal gear.

As I have put on less than 50km with the chip , I am sure that there is much more there and look forward to the results...gets better with age I guess!

I can not say foresure, but for the few extra dollars it may cost me in fuel costs, I believe this will be the biggest bang for the buck when trying to better performace....more reports to come as the miles go on!

Are these rusults felt and heard by others or is there even bigger and better things ahead?

Thanks Mike......so far SO GOOD!

Hi 2001,

Great post!

I didi want to make one quick comment, and that is, here in America ESSO ( or Exxon, as we call it) gas is very low in it's energy content, since it is now reformulated year-round. Here in America, Exxon generally has a lower-than-average BTU (energy) content, and thus we get less gas mileage with it.

If you have better brands available, like Texaco for example, you might want to give that a try after awhile and see if you pick up any mileage gains by switching. Or, this may be something that does not affect your Esso up there, I just couldn't tell you for sure. If you try this and notice any differences in mileage between Esso & other brands over time, please let us know if you get a chance.

Have fun with your truck!

Mike T,

Here is my preference for Ontario; In order of preference Sunoco, Pioneer, ESSO, Shell, Canadian Tire, Texaco, Petro Canada.
I know for sure that Perto Can. has 91 octane
as their premium gas. Sunoco has 94, Pioneer has 93 and ESSO has 92 or 93 depending on station. Shell, Canadin Tire also have 91 but I am not sure of Texaco. I used to run Texaco in the 70s and found that it gave less milage than the other brands. BTW the Freak used to run Canadian Tire's 91 but his record setting run was done using Sunoco 94. The gas here in Ontario has a higher Sulphur content, how does that affect performance? Is it better or worse than lower Sulphur gas?

Regards

Jean Marc Chartier

PS. just for objectivity's sake I will try a tank of Texaco to see what it does to the truck.

Hi JMC,

Thanks for the info! It sounds like your Esso up there must be a lot better than the Exxon in the lower 48 states.

Who knows, you may find that Texaco, one of my favorites here in America, doesn't do as well up there where you are. It's my overall favorite here due to excellent detergent additives giving excellent long-term idle quality, nice high energy content giving better mileage, etc. That may or may not be the case with your Texaco formulations up there.

The higher sulpher content is "dirtier", BP gas was like that for years here in eastern US. I'm not knowledgeable enough to be able to give you the detailed info on all of the effects of this higher suplher content, other than the obvious symptoms of rougher idle, more frequent changing of filters, etc. I would prefer a lower sulpher content, all else being equal. But I'd have to defer to somebody who has first-hand knowledge of fuel formuations to give a good explanation of exactly what that higher sulpher content actually does, both long-term and short-term.
