Post Does Superchip have a stronger program?

I know you have the R9 chip for Ls but do they have something more radical for regular stock F150. It does not have to be 50 state legal.

Hi Stewdog,

As you've probably seen, there have been a number of different Superchip programs for the supercharged Lightning, and this has been due to several factors, not the least of which is that this is the most complicated computer controlled powertrain Ford has put out there so far, and it's taken time to learn all of it's secrets & tricks, which are *far* more involved than in these "regular" non-Lightning F-150's. There have also been owners who wanted to use their Lightnings in mnay different ways, from street driving to racing the Silver State Classic (the Lightning we sponsored & tuned won!) to drag racing to you name it.

The Superchip programs for these regular F-150's are already making all the additional power that can be safely (meaning without damage to the engine from detonation, running too lean, etc.) made on pump premium gas, so we cannot do an "Offroad" type of program that would have even more power. We can't make any more power unless you have more octane in the tank, or if you do further modifications that need compensation in the program, than what we're already making.

Some guys have had us make 2-program Superchip Flip Chip for these F-150's that will have our normal performance program in Position 1, and then a program for offroad or race use only, that requires special ultra-high octane (100 octane or more). Now we could do something like that, so you could run it on pump premium most of the time, and then when you want even more power & put 100+ octane in the tank, you could flip the switch and have that more powerful program.

But in terms of could we get more power out of these engines by not worrying about emissions compliance, with no other mechanical modifications, not really. You see, if we feed them more fuel without it being a needed compensation for some other modification, the power would go down as a result, it wouldn't just be a matter of having a dirty exhaust but more power.

There are some vehicles, mostly either turbocharged or supercharged, where we can give different power levels, but on a normally-aspirated motor, there is only so far you can go with powertrain programming, and then you reach the limit, which is usually defined by the fuel supply being used.

Please feel free to give us a shout if you'd live to go over this in more detail, we'll be happy to go over this or anything else you'd like to discuss, so you can give it some thought.

Question

Hey Mike, Could you give the trans more signal to make it shift a little harder?

Hi K. Smith,

Sure, that can always be done. The Superchip can dial in up to 100% of the line pressure that the automatic transmission is physicaly capable of generating.

The vast majority, and I mean over 99% of our customers, are very happy with what the "standard" Superchip for their vehicle's computer code aleady does for the shift characteristics, as we do much more than just line pressure changes.

However, for those who want a custom program to add even more line pressure than what we normally do, that can certainly be done.

You see, one of the things that we look at when programming these automatic transmissions is not only better "performance", but reducing slippage, and firming up the upshifts without compromising the vehicle's ability to be driven in inclement weather. For example, if someone's wife needs to run out to the grocery store in the rain, we don't want a too-stiff upshift in the middle of a turn in the rain to cause the vheicle to "swap ends".

We can always firm up those upshhifts even more for you, that's not a problem.

Thanks for the reply Mike, The chip was great when first I got it a month ago but now I need more power. (A dodge 5.9 R/T beat me by 2 lengths).

Hi Stewdog,

Ahh, I see, well, we can't allow that to go unchallenged! If you like, you can give us a call and we can go over all your mods, etc., and see what the most logical and best financial next step would be to up the performance further, if you like, we're always happy to help if we can.
