Post restarting with the chip for Mike

Mike, you said in another post to disconnect the battery and turn on the lights for some amount of time. What do you mean? I just got my truck out of the shop, but I took the chip out prior to sending it in. I disconnected the negative batt. post prior to taking it out and I want the immediate effect of reinstalling it. What is my best way to do this?

Thumbs up

You do understand that these trucks have a continuously learning computer?? Some times, like if your grandma got to drive it for a month and only drove 25mph, the computer would "learn" to not put out the power. To change this, you would reset the computer and start over. A lot of people will simply leave the battery disconnected for some indiffinate amount of time(no one seems sure on the time, half hour, one hour???) But if you instead, will disconnect the battery and turn on your headlights this will drain every bit of stored power in the truck. It will reset everything back to when the truck was brand new. Say you have your ck engine light come on and you think it's a fluke. Disconnect battery, turn on lights, turn off lights (only need to turn them on for less than a minute) reconnect battery and the ck engine light is reset. But if you drive the truck and the light comes back on, then this is a good indication that something is wrong. The point w/using the headlights is to save YOU time.
Just noticed the second part of your question: when you reinstall the chip, you will have all the functions of the chip. But here again, because of your learning computer if you let grandma drive it, it will be a tad more sluggesh than if you drive like Richard Petty. What I always try to do is a couple of WOT driving (somewhere that it's safe of course) Then about once a month, do it again!! This way, the computer know's that I will want all the power it can give.

HI Mikey,

Tina explained it pretty well in her post.

This issue of disconnecting the battery is simply so that you can feel the effects of a program change in the computer right away, as it clears the computer's memory. Otherwise it will be a more gradual change, taking longer to be felt.

The technique we use for doing this is to disconnect the battery, and then turn on the headlights for 5 minutes. That drains the residual voltage from the IC's & capacitors in the system, just like Tina mentioned, and then you can reconnect your battery and drive away with a fresh program load.

If you don't disconnect the battery when you re-install the Superchip, it will simply take longer for you to feel all the effects of the Superchip, as it will be a gradual change.

Hi Mikey,

Did you put your Superchip back in yet, using the battery disconnect to do the re-set?

Hope your service visit went ok!
