Crash1,

If you go to taller tires you will loose time on the ¼ mile. Get wider not taller and slip the clutch so you don't spin.
I am running Goodyear RTS 255/75 R16s and I ran 16.390 at Milan. No wheel spin but a lot of clutch slipping. You should be able to brake the 16 second barrier if you stop spinning. BTW what was your top speed at the
end?

Regards

Thumbs up

99BigAl,
Your best mod after the supercharger would be to move out of Texas.

On a comfortable Virginia day, 15.714 @ 85.21

Bone Stock

crash1, at 16.02 I think a well-timed fart would get you into the 15s. This weekend I saw a 97' Dakota with a supercharged 318 run 13.5 so, you still might be aiming too low(high?).

Hi Raoul,

You ran a 15.71? Excellent! That's 3-4 tenths quicker than you ran at VMS during the Rally, but of course we all know who went there just how incredibly hot & humid it was there that day. Ambient air temp was 83 when we arrived, and quickly went to 95 degrees, with over 95% humidity that day, not good conditions for making power. That's why I was so surprised that the Mark ran 94.3 mph through the traps that day at VMS!

So with cooler weather, you dropped all the way down to the 15.70's, that's excellent, to say the least, good for you!

Actually, that would make sense, since I only ran a 15.25 that day with the weight of our luggage & the weather, whereas that car normally runs mid-14's on 1/4 tank and no luggage and decent weather.

So what's that thing run in the winter, high 12's? (just ribbing you here)

Hi Mike, after I got back from the track I found out I was running with about 25psi in my left front thanks to a three inch roofing nail. So that means I 'DO' have to go back and try it again. Darn!

Hi Raoul,

You're kidding, right?

I think it's perfectly reasonable for you to run substantially quicker in cooler weather than that scorching-hot day in July at VMS. Dropping a bit over 3 tenths is certainly possible. A 15.7 time is *excellent* given that it's a bone-stocker.

We've seen Lightnings that run well over a half-second quicker in cool weather as compared to mid-summer conditions.

No Mike, I really did have a nail in my tire and didn't notice I was losing air until I left the track, this past Saturday.

Here are my best runs from July 29th and Sep 30.

60' 2.338 - 2.233 = 0.105
330 6.696 - 6.474 = 0.222
1/8 10.349 - 10.028 = 0.321
MPH 67.79 - 69.54 = 1.75
1000 13.470 - 13.086 = 0.384
1/4 16.139 - 15.714 = 0.425
MPH 83.97 - 85.21 = 1.24

What a difference a month makes.

Hi Raoul,

Oh, I thought you meant that for some reason, this nail in the tire was what you were attributing those reductions in ET to, such as if somehow it were allowing the clocks to start later via increased effective roll-out, in other words, a very wierd & freak-ish situation. That's what I get for making silly assumptions, eh?

I felt it was perfectly reasonable to se a reduction of that much in your ET's just with better weather, simple becasue our conditions in July were just horrific for making power.

OK, so you dropped .42 (over 4 tenths, excellent!) this time, it sounds like my previous numbers & thoughts were accurate, where my Mark 8 was previously running mid-14's without all that weight and in decent weather. Assuming (uh-oh!) a similar .42 reduction in ET, that would have dropped me to a 14.83, and assuming a similar 1.24 mph increase in trap speed, that would have put me at 95.54 mph. Actually, I don't think that's too far off from reality, as the Mark has run 14.4's @ 97 mph before, though of course in much better conditions, and with considerably less weight.

The bottom line here is that you're got a very nice strong-running 5.4 F-150 there! With the Superchip, an Airaid kit and a good cat-back, you shouldn't have any trouble getting into the 14's. Of course, that's easy for me to say.

Great ET's Raoul, nice job indeed!
