4.10's and chip
Will I need to change my chip if I go to 4.10 gears? I have seen a few posts on this but don't know what had to be changed in the program. What rpm would the truck run at 55. It runs 1650rpm at 55 now with 3.55 gears and 255/70/16 tires.

Hi ALLFORD,
You'll be turning roughly 1900 rpm at that same speed with the 4.10's, just giving it a quick "guesstimation".
Since you have a 1997, all you need to do is to recalibrate your speedometer using the correct reduction gear in the transmission. Up thru and including the 1998 model year in the F-150, you can still recalibrate the speedo with a standard reduction gear, starting in 1999 it's all in the computer. Once you do that, you won't need any changes in the program in most cases. Recalibrating the speedo generally solves any upshift/downshift point variations due to the gear change, as the VSS sensro data is once again correct.
One thing to watch for when you install the 4.10's is to see if you bounce off the rev limiter on the 1-2 full-throttle upshift (this doesn't hurt anything, but it sure slows down acceleration of course, and is easy to fix), after having your speedo recalibrated. If this happens, then yes, we'll need to do a custom program to compensate. If it doesn't, then we do not need to do anything at all in the program, so that is what to look for.
Good luck!
