What chip to get?
A friend bought a 99 Lightning and wants a chip. I don't know much abotu these vehicles but said I'd ask on here. What chip should he get, how much are they, and what gains should he expect? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Superchip for the 1999 Lightning will add over 40 more horsepower at the flywheel, and somewhere between 33-35 more horsepower at the rear wheels.

Why not a chip from Jet? Super chip is well covered in the forum. I've read the letters that Hyper chip is not good on F-150's. Can they all be that much differant? Or is it that the other chip dealers are afraid to talk about thier chips on line.
I am almost conviced to buy a super chip soon.

Yes, they are that different.
Jet & Hypertech program vehicles completely generically, meaning for example, one program for all 1998 4.6 automatic F-150's.
The Superchip, on the other hand, is programmed for the exact software revision in each individual vehicle, so you get a program that was made specifically for your individual vehicle, instead of a program that was compromised to run on all similar vehicles. This places a tremendous R&D load on Superchips, because of the many different software revisions in these vehicles for each model year, but it's the only way to properly optimize the powertrain programming.
The other aspect is that only the Superchip adds power at *all* throttle positions in all their applications, the others tune primarily at full-throttle only, and that is due to the structure of the emissions laws in this country. Even for a brand new vehicle, during full-throttle operation there are no emissions standards that have to be met, so if you only tune at full-throttle, you reduce your R&D costs quite a bit, as you don't have to worry about emissions.
Basically, it gets down to a matter of what works best, and it's the Superchip, hands down. If any others did a better job, we'd be selling them instead, we don't care what name is on the package, we care about the *results*.
As do the automakers, and Superchips is the only aftermarket programming firm, to be hired directly by many of the world's major automakers for various projects, due to their expertise.
