Which chip should I use?
Good day all, looking for some advice, I am fixing to get a chip for my 96 with a 5.0, and was wondering which one would be the best for performance plus alittle better millage. Any advice is always appriciated
Hi Cowboy/Firefighter,
Welcome to F-150 Online!
I'm sure you'll get plenty of good feedback here about that.
I did want to respond to your question about getting both more performance & better gas mileage. The Superchip is the only chip for that vehicle that tunes it on part-throttle as well as full-throttle, and hence is the only one that can actually increase gas mileage.
It's merely a by-product of the power tuning, so your gas mileage results will depend primarily on your right foot, as usually.
You see, the emissions laws are structured so that even for a brand new vehicle, there are no emissions standards that must be met anytime during full-throttle operation. Therefore, if you as a chipmaker only tune on WOT (wide-open throttle), then you drastically reduce your R&D costs, time, and emissions certifications requirements, and that is why most chipmakers only tune on WOT.
Additionally, only Superchips programs each chip for the individual specific vehicle, we do not do any "generic' programming. Each Superchip is programmed for the exact software revision that was loaded into your vehicle's computer from the factory, and that way you do not end up with a program that has been compromised to run on all similar vehicles.
Please feel free to give us a shout in email or by phone if you'd like to go over all the details of our specific changes to your vehicle's programming, and in the meantime I'm sure you'll get plenty of good responses here.
Best of luck with your truck,

I tried the jet chip first on my 99 F-150 with a 5.4L engine and then I tried the superchip. I felt no difference with the jet chip and plenty difference with the superchip. I have not had time to get a good gas mileage comparsion as of yet, but the power on the low end is immediate. I also have a K & N FIPK which I think will help with fuel mileage also. Keep me posted
