Thumbs up

Way to go. I noticed the tighter shifts the first shift after I installed mine. When you floor my truck manually in first gear it lays a scratch when you manually shift to second.

Thumbs up I Love it!

I installed my superchip yesterday, and I must say I can tell a difference in the truck. I hope to get even more of a increase in power once I get some more miles on it. The tranny changes like a dream. The chip gave it just the shift I was looking for. It took out all of the wiggles and jiggles and sliding that I had before. I had the no start problem when I first tried to start it. I immediately tought the worst, but then I took the black clip that holds the computer in off and, and pushed on the chip and it fired right up. The bracket was pushing on the chip. I did not bend it, I just put a piece of foam between it and the computer to hold it off the bracket a little bit and reinstalled the clamp. I spanked my first truck last night with it. I went over a buddies house with a 96 Ram with a 360 reg cab 2wd long bed. I probablly could have taken him without the chip, but he did have a weight advantage. I don't intend to race my turck at all, but after I was telling them about the chip he called me out and kept on after me and talked alot of sh^t, and I finally got pissed because I get tired of people talking smack about FORDS. Anyway, I beat him by about a truck and a half. I pulled away from him right off the line, he did not have a chance. Anyway he learned his lesson I think. Got beat by a big heavy *** 4x4 FORD!!!!

Cool

The foam is working pretty good right now, if I have any problems out of it I will bend the bracket. I really was at a weight disadvantage, but I know I beat that truck by at least a truck length to a truck and a half length.

I removed my Superchip in preparation for my replacement 2000 to arrive...and immediately noticed a negative difference. The factory programming sure does bite! The shifting delay is very noticeable now...and I have more black soot around the end of my exhaust pipe.

Mike-- I will contact you if I need the chip reflashed...I should know any day now.

Hey Dustoff (and Mike Troyer too),

Just read your post about removing the SuperChip and now noticing the accumulation of black soot inside the tailpipe. I'm still running the SuperChip and am enjoying the absence of soot, engine really seems to be running lean....could it be too lean though ???

I was just at Midas Mufflers having a broken hanger welded back on, and the tech there remarked that the exhaust system looked as it was running too hot. Observed and said that it was abnormal for my exhaust system to be corroding so quickly, and blamed it on something not working well with the engine.

I sort of shrugged off that comment from him off anyway, all of the salt used on these Maryland roads contributes to accelerated corrosion of the exhaust system. However....

-think do you that there's a danger to the exhaust system being brought on by the high performance of the SuperChip? Just wondering...

-kindest regards

wjt,

When I had the chip in, I had almost no soot on the exhaust pipe. I had trace amounts to almost nothing in daily driving. I did notice that heavy throttle created a bit more soot that was more noticeable.

That is a good question you posted. I doubt the chip is causing any harm to the exhaust system...if it were, I would think it would be more internal pipe damage...rather than external surface rust (is this what you have noticed?). I have not found any exterior corrosion on my exhaust system at all. I remember the harsh winters in Wisconsin that rapidly corroded everything under my cars (from the salt).

Hi LHM,

Glad to hear you're up and running, and already have your first "kill"!

By the way, we go over that "lip" that can be on some of those black pressure clips, as well as the other lip that can be on some of the mounting brackets for the computer in our Performance Products 4-page tips sheet that starts off with our name at the top, and tells you about the location of the computer, etc. We generally recommend bending that lip out of the way, so it cannot push on the Superchip at all.

So you spanked a 2WD regular cab '96 Ram 360, eh? Good "kill"! Especially considering your smaller engine and more weight!

Have fun,

Question

Dustoff, I must have missed something someplace. Are you getting an engine replaced, and if so, what happened? You beat me to that Superchip you have a couple months ago, remember? I got my own in the meantime, so don't worry about calling me up to buy it

Hi wjt,

No, the Superchip will not cause your engine to run too lean. Remember, you still have all of your sensors fully operational and functional, including your O2 sensors, which monitor your Air/Fuel ratios constantly, making adjustments as needed based on load, throttle position, etc.

There are adjustments made to the fuel curves, but this is just to compensate for the different burn rate of premium gasoline, so you don't pick up driveability problems when using the premium gas that the Superchip requires. Some people do comment on seeing less soot accumulate in their exhaust pipes, and a smoother idle characteristic with the Superchip.

Do you do any towing with this vehicle? That can heat up the exhaust system, by virtue of the engine working considerably harder. Or, if you drive the vehicle hard, either accelerating hard or driving at higher speeds with any kind of regularity, perhaps?

One thing to keep in mind is that if your engine goes too lean, you're usually going to get a check engine light come on letting you know that something needs to be checked.

Hey Dustoff,

Good questioon that Jumpn asked you, what's up? Are you getting a new engine, or a new truck, or just what have you got up your sleeve?

At any rate, if you need to be reflashed, just give us a shout. Good luck with whatever you're getting!

Hi LHM,

OK, sounds like your foam deal is working just fine for you, excellent!

Sounds like you got him pretty good with the weight disadvantage. Those Dodge's also usually have higher numerical rear-gear ratios sometimes too. You did good to beat him, that's for sure.

Talking

Thanks for responding Mike (Troyer),

To answer your question, yes, I do drive at a sustained high rate of speed (Approx 80 mph) on the main arteries here. Safely of course, that's just the way the traffic flows. In my mind, that was another reason that I was suspecting for the high heat.

I guess that I'll be exercising that "lifetime warranty" on my Midas Muffler with regularity ;-) Ha Ha!

Mike,

The dealership ordered my replacement 2000 F-150 on June 1st (for my lemon paint job) even trade out. I just received a call that it will arrive July 28-30. My current truck took exactly 30 days from DORA confirmation until I picked it up. Oh well (2 months)...that is only 3 more weeks without the Superchip

The new one is identical to this one...and hopefully the paint is better this time!!!

removed:
* Superchip
* Pendaliner bedliner
* K&N air filter

Question

Mike,

I just ordered a 2001 F150 SC 4x4 5.4L with the 7700# payload package (same as the F250 light duty) and I have a couple questions for you.

1. Do you have chips available for the 2001 yet?

2. Does the program of the chip change because of the 7700# payload option or is it just based on the engine size?

3. How does your chip compare to others on the market?

Thanks in advance for your help

Well, the foam deal worked good until yesterday, so I ended up bending the bracket. I don't think it is touching at all now. That ram has 3.54 or 3.5 something in it. It is printed out on a sticker under the hood, along with engine size std. duty trans and all that good stuff. He also has 265's on the truck now, and I think it came with 245's, but he does not know any better and I ain't tellin!!
