What super chip code for 97 f150
Wondering if any body can tell me what super chip code I will need for my 97 4.6 2wd ext cab auto. I see alot of them in the classifieds but don't know which one will fit my truck. Also does tire size have to do with what program the chip will have? I have 33's now but am going to 35's soon.
Roadrage,
I asked the same question a while ago. Your best resource is Mike Troyer. He is the chip supergod in these parts. Email him at MTroyer@compuserve.com. He will be able to tell you more than anyother person out there. As far as the computer code goes there should be a sticker on the inside of your passenger door with a 3letter and 1number combo on it. Like "NEL4" or something like that. That is your computer code. Talk to Mike you cant go wrong.

Hi Roadrage,
To find your computer code, simply open your passenger door, and look in the front part of the door frame, in the general area of the door hinges. There will be a sticker there with 3 letters and a number on it, and that is your computer code.
As you have probably already noticed with those 33" tires on it, they hurt the performance & gas mileage of the vehicle unless you do a gear ratio change in your differential (front & rear if you have 4WD) to compensate. That will return the engine to the same basic rpm's it was turning before for a given road speed. Going to 35" tires is only going to make this worse. The speedometer is going to be off, though that is easily taken care of by any speedometer shop, as it's just a standard reduction gear for that year vehicle. You can also see some wierd upshift & downshift behavior with these larger tires as well, that varies a bit from one vehicle to the next.
These trucks look great with taller tires on them, but you do have to be careful not to spoil the performance of the vehicle with them, and it usually takes a gear ratio change to get the vehicle back to where it should be in terms of performance and mileage, etc. Once you change tire height by much more than 1-1.5 inches, you can start running into some of these symptoms.
Best of luck whatever you do,
