Post ECM removal...

How hard is it to remove and re-install the ECM on a 2000 Expedition? Do I have to remove the computer if I ever need to take the chip out? Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi Steven_B,

The computer is pretty easy to remove on the Expedition, as it's located in the same place as in all the 1997 & up F-150's. It's inside the cabin, to the right of the dash, and just above the passenger's kick panel.

To get a better idea of it's location, you can take a look under the hood at the wiring harness where it attaches to the front of the computer. This is right behind the battery, on the firewall, on the passenger's side. Now there is a little less room right there in the Expedition as compared to the F-150, so you usually do have to remove your battery to get to the wiring harness connector.

Once you have done the first-time installation, you do not need to remove the computer to remove or replace the Superchip.

It normally takes maybe 5-10 minutes to remove the computer on these vehicles, and anywhere from 30-60 minutes to do the first-time Superchip installation.

Please feel free to give us a call if you'd like to go over this in greater detail.

In addition to the manufacturer's installation instructions, we also include our own Performance Products 4-page "tips sheet", that goes over the installation in greater detail, so the documentation that we send out with our Superchips is pretty thorough.

Just give us a call if you like, and we'll be happy to go over this with you.

Steve_B,
It really is not that difficult to install a Superchips. If I can do it, anyone can. Just moments after I installed mine, site member Duke posted this how-to to his site: http://www.bloodog.com/superchip.asp
It is a great help to read and look at just before you install you chip. Duke worked with Mike for accuracy.

Hi mtknee,

Thanks for your post & providing Chris' link for him!

The installation on the Expedition is very similar to the F-150, so looking at Chris Duke's site will give him a good idea of how to do it.
