increase gas mileage?

Does anyone know of a computer module or computer chip that increases gas mileage significantly (5-7 mpg) and/or increases the performance of you truck at all? I realize that mpg may be sacrificed for performance and vice versa but I was just wondering. I am more interested in increasing my gas mileage anyways since gas is so expensive!

search for mpg, upper right corner and read about the 1715 and 9100 tuners.
1-2mpg plus increased HP (10%) is about all anybody gets

Unfortunately there is the matter of the laws of physics that these F-150s have to obey - fuel mizers they are not. Trouble is we've got 6,000 pounds or more to move down the highway in many cases with these trucks.

In my case with my '98 bone stock I could get 15 mpg on my best day. Now after thousands of dollars of mods (still naturally aspirated) I can get almost 20 mpg consistantly........but that would be by driving for fuel economy. When I feel the need for speed, 20 becomes 15 in a big hurry.

The folks at Ford are not fools. If there was a way to get more economy out of a gallon of regular octane, while still meeting all the other parameters that Ford wants, they would be doing it.

There were very good reasons that my old '78 Honda Civic got 39 mpg on its best day - gross vehicle weight and shape. Of course that old Honda fell flat on its face when it came time to tow the boat or go to the lumber yard.

The bottom line is power mods can produce more fuel economy, but only as a side benefit. You cannot buy a chip or fans or exhaust or intake and think that these will pay for themselves through increased fuel economy.

The best way to acheive fuel economy with these trucks is to leave them parked in the driveway...................

You don’t really want better gas mileage, do you? What you really want is more POWER so you can get to the gas station faster.

Just kidding around!

From what I’ve read on this forum you can increase you’re gas mileage a little, 2 maybe 3 mpg with a super chip tune. The cost of the mod will never be offset by the gain in mpg but you’ll have more power, and that’s a good thing.

Hi GTt-350,

There are a *series* of mods you can do and get a total 5 mpg gain - that is doable - but it's going to take a lot more than just a "chip" to ever get any 5-7 mpg increase in these gas engine F-150's. In the SuperDuty Powerstroke diesels we can get 4-5 mpg gains via tuning alone in many cases, but not in a gasoline engine F-150.

With our best custom fuel economy program on 87 octane, we can see as much as a bit over 2 mpg in V8 F-150's - and on our tuning for premium gas, we've had reports of as much as 3.5 more mpg.

Being able to get a 2.0 mpg gain from tuning on a 2.5-3 ton truck is nothing short of excellent - that's a great percentage increase, 10%. More typically, we see many truck owners getting more along the lines of 14-15 mpg, and generally go up to anywhere from about 15.5 to 17.5 mpg from our custom tuning - so about a 10%-16% increase in mpg seems to be the range.

At 15 mpg, it takes only a 1.5 mpg gain to completely offset the additional 20 cent per gallon cost to use premium gasoline to get *maximum* performance gains, and you can easily use one of our multiple-tune products so you can have everything from a fuel economy tune to a maximum performance tune.

Spend a little time reading the many posts already here, and you will very quickly see that many people here are enjoying more performance and a bit better mpg too, from our tuning - 5-7 more mpg is asking a bit too much from tuning alone.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail, feel free to give us a call at our number listed below - in the meantime, thanks for your post & best of luck with your truck.
