Blue2k,
The code will be in the passenger door jam, just around the hinge. It will be 3 letters and a # (ATC2). It is also on the computer. If you look right above the passenger kick panel, thats where the computer will be. It will be on the black cover of the port.

As far as the tires go I'm not for sure.

About the premium gas, yes you won't see the power gains.

I'm sure Mike T. will be along soon to explain in more detail.

Question a few chip questions

I have a few chip questions that I hope somebody can help me out with.

Where is the computer code located (2000 4x4 w/ 5.4l)? I think I found it but not sure. The superchip website has the code location on 97 and 98 pickups, but nothing newer.

Can the chip re-calibrate the speedo for larger tires? I want to go bigger than the 255's I have now, but don't want the speedo to be off at all!

What happens if I don't run premium gas? I read a post at one point that on the 2000 models there is no detonation if you don't run premium gas, you just don't see the power gains. Is this true?

Sorry for the length, just want to make sure I have the facts.

Hi BLUE2K,

1.) To locate your computer code, open your passenger door. Look in the front part of the door frame, in the general area of the door hinges, as Spargo2 described, and you will find a sticker with 3 letters and a number on it. That is your computer code. Each Superchip is programmed for each specific vehicle, we do not make "generic" chips, and that way you get the best possible program.

2.) Yes, we have some ability to compensate for tire & gear changes. This does require a custom program, and it's best that you find out what the actual height of the tire you're thinking about installing is, so we can help determine whether or not we have that much adjustment range.

3.) If you're going to use the Superchip, you need to run it in premium gas. While it is true that the 2000's have more total effective compensation range in their knock sensor systems, that still does not mean you can run the Superchip on regular gas all the time, that's not the way to use it. Remember that most people see an increase in gas mileage with the Superchip using premium gas, that is just a by-product of the tuning process. Most people see about 1.5 - 2.0 more mpg as a result, and that helps to offset the cost of premium gas, so that your actual increase in gasoline costs are minimal, in most cases not even as much as $150 a year.

One way to get around using premium all the time is to use the Superchip Flip Chip, which is a 2-program Superchip. It's a bit more expensive than the single-program Superchip that most people here are using, but it gives the ability to have 2 different programs, and that way you can have one program for regular gas, and the other for premium when you want maximum power. Also, the Flip Chip includes all custom programming fees, such as for your speedo adjustment for larger tires.

Feel free to give us a call to go over all the various details, so you can give it some thought, and decide what you feel is best for your situation.

Mike,

Thanks for your helpful explanation. Your detailed and helpful answer's is one of the reason's I decided that when I get a chip, Superchip is the one for me. I know the support will be there after the sale.

On to another question. If I do need custom programming when I order my chip, is it best to place the order over the phone with a representative, or can I go through the online ordering system you have provided a link to?

Thanks for all your help Mike.

Hi BLUE2K,

Anytime you need custom programming, you'll want to call us. We have a custom programming worksheet that we have everyone fill out for the technicians down at Superchips, that is very detailed, so that everyone is on the same wavelength. We'll need to fax or mail that to you, which you fax or mail back.

Given your situation, you'll probably want to call us.
