found this to be a good explanation for those who like to do HP and torque arguements:
Horsepower is the standard measurement used to determine the capacity of a vehicle's engine. It is measured on a dynamometer. The larger the horsepower, the more power a vehicle has. One horsepower is the power needed to lift 550 pounds one foot in one second, or to lift 33,000 pounds one foot in one minute. It is equivalent to 746 watts and 2,546.0756 Btu/h.
Cars have between 3 and 12 cylinders. Although more cylinders usually translate into more power (and higher gasoline consumption), engine displacement is also an important factor. Some six-cylinder cars have nearly as much power as some eight-cylinder cars because of their larger engine displacement.
"Automatics" can reduce fatigue in stop-and-go driving conditions. "Manuals" cost less to purchase and repair, they get more miles to the gallon, and they are more powerful when comparing engines of equal sizes.

Fordtrk, I don't feel like I'm driving if I'm not shifting.

I gotta agree with Bill B.

Ok I have a v-6 3.55 gears and i have driven numerous 5.4 liter V-8's. In a word, the 5.4 will destroy any v-6 no matter what you have on there. Hp numbers mean absolutly jack. You have to take into account what rpm these numbers come in at. And it's torque that really gets you off the line not hp. The 5.4 has 345 torque at 2500 rpm's!!! Thats full at just about no time off the line. The 4.2 doest get its 255 torque untill sometime way after the 4000rpm mark. So you are getting less torque at a much later time. Say all you want but what it comes down to is that the 5.4 can beat a 4.2 hands down....there was a reason why it has 1.2 more liters....could it be because it has more power? But hey if you dont believe me then stick to your numbers and think you can beat a 5.4, but in real life go out there get whooped upon and come back and see how well the numbers reflect then.
