Cool OK MIKE...HERES ONE FOR YA

I know this site is about 99% F-150 so I apologize for this question. It is something I need to know, however, and Mike is the man so here goes..
My father has a 99 F-550 PSD and is considering a Superchip (per my advice). I know my 99 150 was affected by the f'ed up jumper and I had to have it soldered. He doesnt really want to do this, being that its his work truck in all, so I guess my question is:
Does his computer need solder?? Code is GLF4. Would make a nice Fathers day present. Thanks bro. Hey and where are my stickers????? E-mailed Superchips 3 times with no luck.

Hey Blackened, I've already got a superchip on my PSD from Mike. There was never any mention of the jumper problem w/the powerstrokes. Instalation was just as easy as with my F150. Actually, it was easier because my husband had already done one chip so he "knew what he was doing" so to speak!! The only difference was the addition of a boost tube that was added just down from the wastegate. It comes w/the superchip and there was directions and pictures for how to install it. I've got a 2000PSD and I think the 99's are just about the same hook up. Oh, another interesting think about the PSD and superchips is that you can have a choice of three different strengths/types of chip. I got the lowest or the standard which gives me 50hp and 100torque. This I felt was enough for my needs. It's good for driving and towing. The stronger ones tend to put out a lot more power but you should also add some gauges to keep a montor on how hot the turbo is getting. Mike will be along to give the stats on what the other two will do for that diesel. And there's also the flip chip that a lot of diesel owners will have programed with standard/and something hotter. Tell your dad to go for it, because one of the bennies is better fuel milage while towing. Only downside is the PSD chip cost more than the F150 chip but Mike gave me a good discount. The chip works great!!!

Dear BLACKENEDFORD,

Actually, I think it's a very fair question, and very appropriate to post here, as it *is* the Computer Chips section.

We have never had any of the Powerstroke diesel computers affected by the jumper misconfiguration seen on a few of the 1999 Fords.

According to Kathy at Superchips, all Superchips, starting just in the last couple of days, literally, are now supposed to be going out with Superchips stickers, they decided to go ahead and fold them, and put them in the box. In our last shipment, only the Flip Chips and Powerstroke diesel & V-10 Superchips had those stickers, but Kathy says that all of them will soon get them as well.

To get what you need right now, just give us a call, and we'll make sure to get you your sticker.

As Tina mentioned, there are 3 different power levels available for the 1999 & newer turbocharged Powerstroke diesels, but we only recommend using the first one of them for most situations. The first power level gain is 50 hp and 100 lbs./ft. of torque, as Tina mentioned, that is what we recommend using, and here's why: that program was developed as the largest power gain that could be made without requiring the vehicle owner to make other modifications to the vehicle. It also gives the best gains in fuel mileage, and it is also the only program that is emissions certified, and in fact is even CARB (California Air Research Board) certified for use in all 50-states. This is what we call the "50/100" program.

The next power level adds 70-75 horsepower, and 125-130 lbs./ft. of torque; it requires opening up the exhaust system, and the installation of an exhaust gas temperature gauge. This is called the "Offroad" program, previously referred to as the "Hot" program. It is not emissions certified, and will only give about half the fuel mileage gains of the "50/100" program.

The last is called the "Extreme" program, and will add 100 horsepower, and just about 200 lbs./ft. of torque (190-200). This program requires opening up the intake and the exhaust, as well as the installation of the exhaust gas temperature gauge. It is of course not emissions certified, and will actually cause you to get *less* fuel mileage. It was developed strictly for racers, basically.

For several reasons, warranty protection, not having to make other modifications, best fuel mileage gains, etc., we recommend using the "50/100" program for all 1999 & later Powerstroke diesels that will see on-road use.

Please keep in mind for anyone reading this post that all of these programs we're talking about here in this post are ONLY for Powerstroke diesels, they do not apply in any way to any other FoMoCo vehicles.

The GLF4 code you mention is readily available.

DIS (dieselpage.com) sells the superchips and boost tube for the Power Stroke for about $375. They are also a great site for the diesel owners. Lots of good stuff. Also look at www.ford-diesel.com
