Newly Superchipped!
Well, I just got my Superchip installed tonight. I ordered it from Mike Troyer Monday and I got it Wednesday. Thanks Mike for the propt attention!!!!
Installation was smooth. I found it easier to remove my battery to access the computer wiring harness, but the total install only took about 40 minutes.
Although NOT recommended in the manufacturer's instructions, I used lacquer thinner to remove the coating from the computer edge connector. The thinner aplied with a Q-tip softened the coating to a "goo" and then I removed it with the abrasive pad supplied. Seemed to work pretty slick.
I only took it out on a 5 mile drive, but the perfomance improvement is definitely noticable. I LOVE the way it shifts now, decisive not sluggish. The shift points are all where you would expect them and you can anticipate the shift points. I like the immediate 2-3 upshift on hard throttle which seemed to take 1-2 seconds before. All I can say is I whish I found this site sooner then I would have had this chip sooner. Tranny fix with a performance boost, what more can you ask for?
***Thanks Mike*** for the great service and again for answering all my questions Monday. I'm sure I'll be sending more people your way.

HI Fred,
Great post! Glad to see you're enjoying the Superchip.
I did want to make one comment, and please don't take this the wrong way, ok? We do not ever recommend using *ANY* type of solvent, lacquer thinner (the conformal coating is not lacquer based!), brake cleaner, etc. on the edge connector, as they *will* attack the plastic and can cause it to literally dissolve, or slowly eat away over time. I thank you very much for pointing out that the instructions do not recommend this.
There are some people who have used these types of solvents, and who feel comfortable doing that.
As long as you are extremely careful, it usually works out OK, but those contacts are mounted on a plastic circuit board, so it's next to impossible to not get any of the lacquer thinner on the plastic, and that is why we do not advise using it.
I only mention this simply because as soon as one person says they did it and had no problems, then others try the same thing, despite what our instructions say, and then the problems start.
So while I'm of course very happy that Fred got his installed with no apparent problems using that method, we advise against the use of *ANY* solvents or cleaners. RUBBING ALCOHOL ONLY!
That will cut through this coating fairly well, and you don't have to worry about it eating the plastic.
OK, now that I've dotted my I's and crossed my T's, I'm off my soapbox!
Enjoy your Superchip Fred, and thanks again for your post.
Have fun,

I became one of the chipped club today!! I ordered my chip from Mr. Troyer before going on vacation. Got back yesterday, chipped today! Does the fun ever end? It took me a little longer to do the install, but I just took my time, and also had to clean the guck off the contacts twice. Thought I had it pretty good the first time, but no. Luckily, I had just set the battery in the tray, and did not fully tighten everything back down. A little more light scraping and alcohol pad and that's all she needed. The truck runs exactly as I hoped it would. Solid shifting under heavier throttle, but still comfortable shifting when keeping the rpms < 2000. It really likes to get up and out over 3 grand though!
Only put about 45 miles on it today, will do some more experimenting tomorow. Rained an inch here today, and we all know these Goodyear tires perform when wet
Thanks to Duke and others with installation hints and tips, I felt like I had done it a million times before I even got started.

Dear Jumpn,
Congrats on your installation, and joining the "Superchipped"!
Sometimes people will leave a bit of that conformal coating on primarily the bottom side of the edge connector, and need to clean it off a bit more. It can help to have something to look at the connector with a little bit of magnification, so you can see just how thick the coating is on your particular connector. The conformal coating can vary in it's thickness, ranging from as little as 2-3 mils to as much as 10-12 mils or so.
Have fun with your Superchip,
