OK, replaced my jetchip with a Superchip....
Now, how do I teach this computer what i want?
First, some observations. I had the would not start, rough idel problem and had to take the chip out and replace and secure more firmly. Once that was done, runs like a charm. How does it compare to the Jet Chip, well, I only had a chance to put on few miles but there seemed to be a better shifting pattern and a flutter I had in the sound of the k&N went away to give me a great acceleration sound, really smooth. I'll let you know after a few hundred miles. Now the real question is how do I teach this computer? The truck is an F250 '98 LD 4.6 and I use it around town as well as throwing on a light weight camper for weekends. I would really like to(1.) get good gas mileage, (2.) improve the power for pushing this truck up the hills with the camper, and of course, (3.) have it peppy and fun to drive. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dear ksonger,
You're really not going to "teach your computer" much of anything in the literal sense. So you can drive your vehicle any way you want with the Superchip, just drive it like you did before.
Over the life of the vehicle, Ford's "adaptive strategy" is what allows the computer, on a very limited basis, to attempt to optimize certain aspects of it's operation according to the manner in which the vehicle is being operated. For example, if you take one vehicle that normally does frequent heavy towing, and line it up beside an identical vehicle that hasn't been towing, have the same heavy load behind each of them, then the truck that has been doing the heavy towing will have at best 2% more power in that situation.
I mention that particular example so as to give you an idea of just how little additional power is available as a result in that rather extreme circumstance; very little horsepower, perhaps a handful at best.
So nothing much of what you do will have much of a real effect on how much power that vehicle will make as a result of having the Superchip.
One thing that we'll do after an installation is to immediately go out and drive 20 miles of varied driving. Some low speed cruising, some high speed cruising, and 2 or 3 full-throttle bursts, just long enough to see the full-throttle 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts. The idea being to throw different conditions at in a short period of time. It's just a short-term technique, to slightly improve short-term results.
Just drive your truck like you normally do, I'd say. In the end, it's not going to make any significant impact on the effect of the Superchip on the vehicle.
One thing to make note of, is that it can take as long as 2000 miles to see the best gas mileage improvements from the Superchip. It's power gains come much, much quicker, but the absolute best gas mileage can take a couple thousand miles to see.
Have fun,

Hi Bill,
I see you still have the "NOS maybe" in your sig. Still thinking about it? We've actually had a few guys with V-6's do that, I think they were just doing small shots, like 50-75 hp.
