Chip wont turn over
I Finnaly received my chip today . I clean all the conntacts really good. so when it came time to turn the truck on all I heard was a think i can think i can but no can.Did i do something wrong.
Its one of 2 things - either you didn't get the contacts as clean as you thought, or you have the 'no start' problem which effects a small percentage of '99s (including mine).
To fix the 'no start' problem, two small dots of solder have to be added to specific locations on the computer circuit board - Superchips will do it for free but you have to send to computer to them. Or you can download the pictures and do it yourself, or pay a TV/VCR repair shop to do it.
Oh yeah - the truck should start normal w/o the chip in. But of course you can't drive it when the computer is out being soldered.
Hang in there - it is pretty frustrating not to be able to use the chip, but it is the single best thing you can do to these trucks - you'll love the auto shifting, too.
The good news is it is worth the trouble!
You may check w/ Mike T. & Superchips to see if they have experienced this problem with other engines having your computer code.

Also check to see if the rolled up edge of your mounting bracket is pushing against your Superchip. I experienced a 'no start' the very next day after installation..after my truck ran fine and sat overnight. I pushed on the chip..then the truck fired right up. I redid the installation, removed the bracket, flattened the top of it out (where the chip sits) and have not had a problem since.

I talked with Eddie today, and we have determined that he may have scraped too much off of his contacts, as the copper contact underneath the protective tin coating, which is underneath the clear-colored conformal coating, is showing on his contacts. His computer code is not normally affected by the jumper misconfiguration, but that will be checked as well. Until that is checked out, we won't know for sure if teh contacts were actually damaged, or if he's been reflashed, or if it's a jumper box, as we refer to them, but either way, the cause will be determined very quickly and his computer overnighted back out to him, ready to rock.
We have arranged for him to overnight his computer into Superchips, and they are going to make sure it's not a reflash, or a jumper problem as well. They are going to build his contacts back up to repair them, and then test his computer & Superchip together, and overnight it back out with the Superchip already installed, and ready to bolt back into the truck, and drive away.
I just wanted to point out that in both the manufacturers installation instructions, and in our additional 3-page tips sheets, it is pointed out that when you are cleaning the contacts, if you see any metal shavings, STOP! You have gone far enough on that contact. The protective tin coating, if you scrape too hard, will come off, and it will always give off fine metal shavings when this happens. As long as you stop as soon as you see those shavings, you'll be fine. But if you continue to scrape after that, you can damage the contacts. I want to point out that you have to scrape very hard and/or for a long time before this will ever happen, it's not something that will happen easily, in other words.
Eddie will be up and running with his Superchip very soon, so he can enjoy all the benefits that everyone else with the Superchip is enjoying.
Hang in there Eddie, and thanks for calling to let us know.
