chip and transmission
How hard does the transmission shift with the chip. I have the B&M shiftplus and it tends to jerk when you speed up then let off the gas. How high are the shift points? I pull #5,000 and need more low end power.
The shiftplus has two positions but then they tell you not to use level two. It could damage the trans. in daily driving. That was nice to know.

The tranny does not slam into gear...it simply shifts *now* and the power is right there...and believe me..a 110% improvement!
Down shifting is also immediate. No delay as with the stock program.
There is no 'jerk' and this should help you out when pulling the 5,000 lbs!!
I am already impressed with the superchip..and glad I finally bought one!!

Dear ALLFORD,
Dustoff explained it pretty well in his post; you won't be bothered with stiff or jerky upshifts when you're driving conservatively with the Superchip. It is a far more sophisticated device than the B&M unit, and is calibrated so that your upshifts get progressively firmer as you give it progressively more throttle. It's only on heavy throttle that the shifts are really firm, and they're always quick, reducing the amount of slippage your transmission is subjected to.
The B&M unit does a great job for what it is, a roughly $40 unit, and a lot of guys have installed them in their F-150's.
The Superchip does far more for your vehicle, and far more for the automatic transmission. It removes the shift delay signal, the power-robbing spark retards during and just after the upshift, and so much more. And, it can work just fine with your B&M unit if you want to use both. You'll just keep it on it's lighter setting, in most cases.
Please feel free to give us a call and I'll be happy to go over all this in detail with you.
Good luck with your truck,

I just cant explain it in words how happy i am with the way the superchip works for me!It is hard to explain about the shift delay and spark retard.Once installed you will IMMIDIATLEY understand!Ive said it a thousand times, here goes again,"I absolutley love everything my superchip does and cant understand how a little chip does so much"!I also cant understand especially on a lightning how the factory could tone this truck down so much.I will be very surprized if this chip doesnt knock off .5 in the 1/4.I also really think I am going to a 103-104mph from 98.88.
Dear LightningQuick,
You make a very good point, in that we can talk about the specifics of what the Superchip does with regards to the shift characteristics, removal of shift delays, transitional spark retards, etc., but there is no substitute for *feeling* it, actually experiencing it. And once you've felt it, you never want to go back.
The nice thing is that the smooth character of the vehicle is maintained when you're driving conservatively, as the upshifts get progressively firmer as you give it more throttle.
The factory program for the Lightning engine is so very conservative just in case that vehicle ever has to be run on anything less than a high-quality premium gas, and they left a considerable amount of power "on the table", so to speak. This is also why the Lightning Superchip is based on the 2-program Flip Chip, so we can give the driver immediate access to the conservative program should the vehicle have to be operated on anything less than premium for a short time, as we want to protect that wonderful supercharged 5.4.
The difference the automatic transmission programming makes is pretty much the same for all these vehicles, so they are all much improved. In the Lightning of course it's especially noticeable, thanks to all that power and that big 4R100 tranny. It can feel very nice indeed when programmed properly.
Have fun,

Hey Mike this is kind of off the subject but since you brought up the 4R100 tranny I will ask it. I have been driving a F250 Super Duty SC with the "New" 5.4L all weekend. Is it my imagination but this 4R100 shifts better than the 4R70W stock? Or is it I am not used to it yet? It is almost as good stock as my F150 with the Super Chip in it. Seems to be a bit crisper and quicker to shift with not as much delay.

Thanks for all the information. Sounds like when I get the cash a chip will be on order. My brother(1995 F350 460 C6-auto 4x4) talked about one also. With a C6 will the chip do any more than give the power increase?

Dear cphilip,
Yes, the 4R100 is a heavier-duty transmission, so it probably does feel a bit better than the 4R70W with "only" 260 hp. in front of it. It still has all the same basic programming issues, meaning it has the shift delays on both upshift and downshifts, transitional spark retards, not enough line pressure, etc. It's capable of handling more power, certainly. If you got a chance to drive a Lightning, you'd see that with that kind of power in front of it, it shifts every bit as sloppy as the 4R70W in your F-150 before you installed the Superchip.
So it will see the same basic improvements from the Superchip, if you like it now, you'll *love* it with the Superchip. But then, of course I would say that, wouldn't I?

Dear ALLFORD,
Yes, that 1995 has a computer-controlled transmission, so it too, will see the same basic benefits from the Superchip in addition to the raw engine power gains. Just give us a call, and we'll be happy to take care of both vehicles for you, and make it worth your while.
The 460 in that F-350 is going to see 24 more horsepower, and 45 lbs./ft. more torque from the Superchip.

One more Mike?. I take backroads on a trip. If I get some poor gas will I have to take out the chip. I don't get a Shell station each time. I plan to go to Virginia soon, 58 to lawrenceville.
