TO CHIP OR NOT TO CHIP
I am considering putting a Super Chip in my F150 5.4l. Why is the Super Chip superior to say Hyperchip and the Jet chip. I was told a 4x4 Wholsale the Super chip was not the way to go. I do have to say that Steve sure makes some convicing arguements for the Super Chip. Alsoi will a K&N filter help or should I just get the whole Airaid injection system. Thanks for any direction.

Hey GLASSMAN,
The Superchip is one of the best mods you can make! It increases your hp. and torque on your truck. It's the "only" chip that gives you better performance in the city as well is on the highway. It also gives you tighter shifts. It's been well documented to give you better gas mileage (1.5 to 2 mpg) and may slightly smooth out your idle.... did mine! You have to use 90 plus octane (92 works great for me) as the Superchip allows more spark.... that's the basics.
Mike will be here soon if you have any more questions and to tighten up anything I've missed. He's a great guy and you can trust him completly!
Good luck and welcome aboard.... this is a great site!

Beware of imposters. There is a company (ADS) that has a chip they call a Super chip. It is NOT the same as a Superchips, Inc. Superchip.
Do a search for "Jet". I think someone here has one that they're using as a paperweight. They took it out when they got their Superchip.

Hey Glassman whats up? I suggest looking at the K&N Generation II kit. Basically the same as the Airaid just designed by K&N. Depending on where you live (CA) you may have a hard time getting the Airaid kit visually smogged ok. I was told when I was in the market that K&N does pass smog with NO prob. I have the K&N II and it was easy to install and I believe it makes a nice diference. Good luck!! As far as the chips go I want a superchip. But, $2.00 a gallon for premium is hard to take. Let me know what you decide.

Glassman, 4 Wheel Parts and Wholesale don't carry the Superchip so they are going to bad mouth it. You can spend the next week reading posts in this section about the pros and cons of the different chips. I did a lot of research before I went with Superchip. Most people who went with the Jet chip were really dissapointed. The old Hypertech wasn't much better, both only worked at WOT. The programmable Hypertech seems to be a better product but you can get the same thing with the for less money with the Superchip. Most of the current postings deal with Superchip because we all have found it is the best product for Ford applications. Do a search for Jet and Hypertch and see what people have to say. Several memebers have dumped the Jet and Hypertech and replaced with the Superchip.

GLASSMAN,
Don't bother searching for info on a Jet Chip. I have one. It keeps my papers from blowing around in my office. :-( In 97 I got a Jet Chip. Superchips didn't have one yet.
When Mike Troyer advised me that Superchips had one I ordered it. That is when the Jet became a paper weight. Jet only works when at WOT, not all the time. My 2000 has a Superchips. Funny thing i tried the Jet chip in my 2000 and it fired up and ran. Now that is "custom" programming. IMHO get the Superchips.

Dear Glassman,
There are many reasons to go with the Superchip as opposed to *any* other performance chip. First, it's the only one that works *all* the time in these F-150's (as well as most other vehicles), not just at wide-open throttle (WOT). You see, the emissions laws are structured so that during WOT operation, even for a brand new vehicle, there are no emissions standards that have to be met. So if a chipmaker only modifies WOT parameters, then they don't have to certify for emissions compliance, and all the other things that you get with the Superchip. Basically, tuning only on WOT makes the product far cheaper to bring to market, because their R&D costs are reduced by 80% or so. And in plain fact, most other chipmakers simply do not know *how* to properly tune on part-throttle, they have no idea how to do it and still maintain strict emissions compliance while actually improving power and driveability, it's a true science. And one that a lot of people and companies have tried to claim competence in, but the proof is in the results, as you can see from all the posts here directly from the people who are actually using them.
Superchips is concerned with improving power and driveability in *every* situation possible, not just at full-throttle. They take the time and effort to tune throughout every throttle position. So they make more power total, and they make more power *all* the time. Other chips don't have any advantages even at WOT, as the Superchip makes more raw power. Superchips is the company that *invented* this entire industry, back in 1983, and as a result of their expertise, they are to date the only aftermarket programming firm that is hired directly by many of the major automakers.
Another extremely important factor is that with the Superchip, you get a chip that was made for *your* individual vehicle, and programmed according to the software revision that your vehicle came with from the factory, so you don't get a program that is compromised to run on all similar vehicles. This is one of the single most important aspects, as you get the benefit of a complete custom workup for *your* vehicle. Even for the exact same identical year make model of vehicle, there can be dozens and dozens of different computer codes (software revisions in the computer) for the same model year. By making a chip that works on all of them, you have to compromise the program very severely, and you get nowhere near teh power you could get by doing it "right", meaning programming for each different code.
I could go on and on, but that gets boring for the many people here who have seen me explain this many times, so I won't inflict all that on everyone.
Please feel free to give us a call, and I'll be happy to go over all of this in detail with you.
Good luck with your truck,
