Ruger-
Is that to high compared to what? or with what? 93 or the high test as many call it doesnt add horsepower rather it decreases the chance of pre detonation in the cyclinder.... People who tweak timing etc...or older cars use this because of this....

Question

A knowledgable mechanic from the Saturn dealership told me yesterday..that placing 4-5 MOTH ***** in your fuel tank (treats 15 gallons) and not every tank full...will raise the Octane to 100 and clean out/help clean out the carbon in an engine.

Anyone else heard of this method?

Question

Mike,

You said that the superchip requires 92 octane at sea level, what is required at 5000 ft? I live in Colorado and there are VERY few stations that have 92 or higher octane. Almost all stations have 91 as the premium/super unleaded.

Loser1,
I asked the same thing..but I guess they have been doing it for a long while now..with no problems.

I have no plans on it...but I would like to find out if it is fact or fiction anyway!!

Dear tkdhoyt,

As elevation increases, the demand for octane drops, which is why you have premium gasolines at 91 and sometimes only 90 octane at high elevation. And that is fine for use with the Superchip. As you probably know from living there, oxygen content decreases as altitude increases, so you can burn less fuel and hence, you make somewhat less total power as compared to sea level. You still get a nice power gain from the Superchip, it's going to do what it does, you simply have a bit less total power, either stock or with the Superchip, at high altitude.

Dear Ruger-DFW,

If your question is, is 93 octane too high to use with the Superchip, the answer is no, the Superchip requires 92 octane at sea level to make the rated power gains. Some areas have premium gas as high as 93 and 94 octane, and that's fine too! Here in Virginia our pump premium is 93 in most areas.

Mike,

Thanks! Your information is just what I expected to hear. I am going to be picking up my truck tonight! Its about time!!! I will be considering a chip in the future, probably after gas prices drop back down a little.
