cybweed, my rough idle cleared up some after installing the chip. It's not completely gone, but it's definitely better than before. I asked this same question before ordering and Mike said that Superchips makes no claim to smooth a rough idle (as that's not what it's intended for), but that several owners do notice an improvement.

There has been discussion of rough idle issues in the Engines section -- I found out some info from a very decent Ford tech. and posted it there. Good luck.

I have had it back for the rought idle to two different service depts. They say it is normal, or that they don't know how to fix it yet. I have heard everything in the world that it could be on the message board, but no luck getting it fixed. I did the wire move thing, reboot the idle trim, and put in a K&N airfilter. I have also tried all three grades of gas in it and it seemed to perform better overall with midgrade fuel. Anyway, I thought the superchip might be helpful. I have tried everything else.

Another thing on the rought idle. If it is normal then my guess is that the truck is set to idle to lean. With the spark advance etc from the superchip would it reset the engine to run less lean.

Hello, First time post, so be nice.
I was doing some searching and just using this site to feel myself around.
I've been looking to chip my truck and a friend told me about this site.
In my researching I came upon this topic, which says "superchip", so I started reading the posts and was finding interesting info, then I came upon the statement or what ever you may want to call it.

The "Statement" or "Comment" that says what gasoline is good and what ones are bad, I had to reread that statement on BP Gasoline .

I am a B P Gasoline Distributor and the word "DIRTY" really upset me.
How was this determination made, what finding do you have on B P Gasoline, that gave you the expertise to tell this gasoline rating?
Your comments please, and there must be others out there ,that sell these bad gases??
Just abit Upset, FS

Cool

Fullservice: I don't know about fuel being "dirty" either. But what I do know is that I tried running 3 tanks of each of the brands I consitered putting into my truck. I tried to keep my driving habits the same and was just seeing if there was any difference in mpg from one brand to the other. I found that my truck did'nt put out as many miles on the Exxon as the other gas brands I tried. So I wouldn't say Exxon was "dirty" but that it's addititives must be different than the other brands that I tried. After that, I no longer used Exxon. I didn't try BP, none in my general area.

Dear Cybweed,

Anything is possible, I suppose.

Feel free to give us a call and we'll be happy to discuss that in detail with you.

By the MIKE, tell us all, of the refinerys and tank farms, that you have worked at???
You must have been a temp worker, cause you sure didn't learn anything on the job.

By the way, is there anything in this world THAT you haven't done????

Cool

I'm really curious why fordyfour has it out for Mike in a big big way. If Mike states what he believes to be true (right or wrong) and it goes against what anyone else believe - then let it go. Mike has the right to express his opinions.

I've watched as fordyfour has followed Mike on various threads of this message boards, riding his coattails, looking for any and all opportunities to slam him, his business and his opinions. He made snide remarks about Mike's decision to contribute to charity and now as resorted to thinly disguised name calling and physical threats.

I'm sure this thread will be locked shortly. That's a shame - people were sharing opinions and experiences with each other - then it stooped to name calling and threats. What a shame.

Tom in Tacoma (yes, I'm a personal friend of Mike's - but that has no bearing on anything I've just posted)

WOW, I feel partially responsible for starting this "pissing contest" with my question about F150 drive train control computer chips.
I purpose we settle this gasoline quality "pissing contest" in a more scientific way. I, who have no "axe to grind", will query an impartial petrolium engineering professor at a top engineering school and report back. The big issue as I read it is the relative energy value in equivalent premium gases.

Not just premium gases. I am curious as to the energy content per gallon, using consistent test and measurement bases, of regular octane gasoline also. Any help would be appreciated.

Dear Jim,

No, don't feel responsible in any way. All you've done is try to get the information you need, and there's nothing wrong with that. That's what most of us are here for!

Fordyfour,

I quote from your post >Oh, you where "kinda' right on Exxon, but it mostly pertains to high population areas.<

Does this make you a partial "A" hole for agreeing? Be nice what goes around comes around.

Mr. Troyer has done a lot for the members of this list and so have others. Yet you attack him. Why not blast others for their opinions? He has never used foul language or blasphemed, he has never threatened anyone, so why do you? You should have a right to your opinion and you have prevailed yourself of this quite well, but to attack any person for their opinions is totally unwarranted. To disagree it what, I believe your Constitution is all about. If I were to say brand X gas is dirty or poor quality will you invite me out also? If so, you must spend a lot of time out of doors.... I dare you to explain why you attack him.

Kindest regards

Jean Marc Chartier

Question

Good, bad, clean, or dirty, who cares! I just want to know what's causing the price of gas to go through the roof? If it gets much worse, we'll have to start a car pool forum!
