Hypertech vs. Powerchip
Just to help Sal out, the PSP chip is also a fulltime flip chip.
I have both and have run both.

Superchip
I had a Hypertech power programmer with powerstat in my '97 Z-71 with 5.7L. Now I have a Superchip in my '00 Expedition with 5.4L.
I can say the Superchip is much better behaved than the powerprogrammer. I see much more even increases in power and torque as well as wonderful shifting ( worth the $225 by itself ).
The Hypertech was only really effective in WOT, knocked alot even on 94 octane, and the shifting was much more harse. I would literally spin on wet pavement shifting 1-2.
Hope this helps.

Wiley, make it easy on yourself. There must be hundreds of people on this message board that have asked the same question. For the most part we've all gone with the Superchip. The Superchip is the only one that works FULL-TIME. The hyperchip works - but you'll only benefit from it at wide-open throttle.

Dear *****,
The Superchip adds power *all* the time, whereas the Hypertech only adds power at WOT (wide-open throttle), and it's all the difference in the world. This is due to the structure of the emissions laws, as even for a brand new vehicle, during full-throttle operation there are no emissions standards that have to be met. So if a chipmaker only modifies full-throttle parameters, they don't have to certify for emissions compliance, etc., and that reduces R&D costs rather dramatically.
Superchips is the company that invented the power chip concept, back in 1983, and their primary focus has always been on improved overall driveability. And to improve overall driveability, you have to tune on part-throttle as well as full-throttle.
As you can see here from the one response from somebody that has actually used both, there's quite a bit of difference between the programming techniques of the two companies.
Another difference is that in most of their applications, Hypertech requires that you change your thermostat to one that is abnormally low, 160 degrees or less. The Superchip is made to work with your factory thermostat.
Hypertech's basic technique is to keep the cylinder head terperature lower than normal, so they can dump in a ton of spark advance at WOT. This is an OK technique for the drag strip, but not so great for a vehicle that is primarily street driven. You need to keep as much heat as possible in the combustion process for best volumetric efficiency.
Please feel free to give us a shout if you'd like to get more detailed info,
