Difference between Predator & SC tuner?

What the title saids. What is the difference between the two? So far I have only heard the the SC tuner can hold more custom tunes than the Predator. What else, does it let people adjust the a/f, timing, shift points and stuff more that the Predator? I would like to know because I am debating between the two.

I currently have a single program superchip tuned by JDM in my 03 Lightning. I plan on doing more mods soon so the fact that a tuner can e-mail me a tune right away would be great instead of sending the chip back for a reburn.

Thanks

Hi BM,

The best thing to do is to read up on both products - you can read up on the 9100 Superchips Custom Tuning Micro Tuner on our web site at this link: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...catalogno=9100

The 9100 does have room for 3 different custom programs, not just one, you're exactly correct there.

However, far more important than whatever hardware is using to deliver the program to the PCM, is the actual quality of the *tuning* - either piece of hardware will deliver tuning to the PCM, but it's *who* is doing the tuning that matters far more than any other aspect - though I am a big proponent of having multiple tunes in any supercharged or significantly modified truck's tuning.

So rather than making your choice based on the hardware (other than the basics of choosing between a traditional "chip" or a flash device), I'd recommend focusing on the quality of the actual tuning - that's what determines how your vehicle runs.

The 9100 does *not* allow you to adjust your own shift points, timing, or fueling, as it's a completely custom unit that can be used to tune anything from a 7.3L Powerstroke diesel to a 4 Cyl. Ford Tempo - V6, V8, V10, it does not have the limitations of the Predator in that regard. We can use it to tune *any* 1996 or newer FoMoCo vehicle that uses the EEC-V PCM. But the shift point changes to a 7.3L Powerstroke diesel, which tops out at just 3500 rpm, aren't remotely close to what would be appropriate for say, a 1998 Lincoln Mark 8 and it's 6500 rpm potential. So out of necessity, adjustments are not allowed in those areas simply because the address ranges are different for the various different applications. At some point in the future that type of functionality will be added if it can be made to work correctly, but for now it's not in there.

Now if someone we provide the 9100 to needs an adjustment to their shift points, shift firmness levels, a speedometer recalibration for a tire size or gear ratio change, etc., we'll provide those adjustments free - and any adjustments required to the actual engine tuning are done free as well, provided there are no mechanical configuration changes that would affect the engine's tuning and we have proper datalogging info.

The 9100 SCT Micro Tuner has an option to have it's programs be updated by us sending a new set of programs via email as well - at the link shown above is all the information about that.

Please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below to go over this in more thorough detail, and find out just exactly what we can do, what the 9100 will do for you, discuss your specific needs & wants, etc., to see if the 9100 will fit the bill for you - we'll be happy to help.

Good luck with your Lightning,

Sounds like Mike is da man.

Would it be odd if I change vendors? Like I said I have a chip from JDM and it would be easy for them send a another tune. They are also selling the SC tuner. Besides, Im not willing to buy mods for my truck in bulk(got to keep the cc down ) so I would prolly need a new tune often and you don't need me bugging you all the time.

I prolly call him soon to get some info.

Thanks

Mike can make any adjustments to the tune as you chang and upgrade equipment.

He also now has the ability to download these tunes through the internet to the SCT 9100 tuner, and with the ability of the tuner to hold 3 different tunes it gives you a lot of choice for different driving conditions.

Give the man a call if you are after performance with good drivability at a fair price and a honest down to earth person, Mike Troyer is the man!!!!!!
