Post Computer Chip for diesel

I have a 99 ford super duty with the diesel engine. Is there a superchip available and what gains in power, miles per gallon, or towing should I expect.

Dear Bill,

I'm sorry, but no, we don't make chips yet for that vehicle. Mopar *is* making performance computers available for a number of their diesel trucks, so you might want to check with your local Mopar dealer to see if they have one for that particualr vehicle. If so, I recommend using it, as Mopar tends to tune their performance computers very well, I like a lot of what they do, as they too, tune on part-throttle as well on most of them, like Superchips does.

A few months ago, I saw an episode of Shadetree Mechanic, where Sam & Dave installed one of those computers into a Dodge diesel, and talk about a lot of work, phew! It has to be up on a lift, remove the driver's wheel & tire, and then the computer is up in a recessed panel. But it was well worth it! The gains weren't as big as the Superchip does on say, a Powerstroke diesel, but it was still considerable, over 60 lbs./ft. of torque, if I remember correctly.

Tom S:

Go to www.ford-diesel.com. There is a guy that goes by the name Jeffakamax. He is selling the Power stroke diesel chips really cheap. I think $212.00 plus shipping. He has the same truck. also his email is jeff@ntsource.com. Best price I can find.

Dear Tom S,

Welcome to F150online!

Yes indeed, we have a fantastic Superchip for your Powerstroke diesel, and it will add 50 horsepower, and 100 lbs./ft. of torque! It also does many other functions, such as removing the top speed limiter, firming up the shift characteristics of the automatic tranhsmission models, etc. With regards to fuel mileage, most Powerstroke owners see anywhere from 2 to 4 more mpg when towing heavy loads. This turbo-diesel engine works just the opposite of gasoline engines, in that when running empty, you won't see any appreciable gains in fuel mileage, it's when you are under a heavy load that you see the fuel mileage benefits from the Superchip. Superchips had an independant lab out in California verify the power gains and fuel mileage benefits, and they reported back that when the Powerstroke diesel was running empty, the Superchip added only .1 (one tenth) of a mile per gallon increase. But when loaded, it got anywhere from a low of 2 more mpg to as much as 6 more mpg. I personally feel that 2-4 mpg gain when loaded is more likely, based on the feedback we get from our customers.

Please feel free to give us a call, or shoot me an email for details and how to purchase, our contact info is below for your convenience. We offer special discounts to F150online participants.
