I just wanted to drop everyone on this thread a quick note, because ever since Bob posted that he's having this custom program done to his Superchip, people have been calling me wanting the same thing. Oh, and Bob, you should have gotten it back even quicker, like by this morning!

First, this will *not* give you any better performance whatsoever. Second, it costs $125 plus return freight to do this custom program. Third, you run the very real risk of spinning tires on light-throttle upshifts in the rain, something that most people want to avoid at all costs. And finally, Bob is getting this done at no charge because *I* failed to understand what he wanted in the first place, and my improper understanding caused him additional delay in getting his program like he wanted it, and I felt bad about it, so I picked up the tab to do this work and overnight it back to him. Which is also why I rushed it thru Superchips for him, I owed him at least that much!

I wanted to post this so that all of you would know that this does normally cost extra, and will not improve performance or decrease acceleration times any more than the regular Superchip program does, so it's not something I encourage anyone else to spend money on, simply because it won't help the performance of your vehicle any.

I hope this helps everyone's understanding of this situation, and we wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

I'm sorry if my post caused you any grief Mike, that was not my intention . I hope things settle down after your last post. To set the record straight folks I was willing to pay Mike the custom programming fee, however Mike was kind enough to work things out after the fact. Thanks again Mike! Well the chip is back in and it's BETTER THAN EVER. The guys at Superchips did a very good job of striking a balance between the needs of a daily driver, and my desire for a more agressive transmission program. The part throttle upshifts are firmer but still smooth. The WOT shifts are much cleaner, and the downshifts really let you know that they mean business . This is the type of program I really wanted from the start, for me paying $125 dollars more is certainly worth the price. So if you're looking for a bit more from your chip then belly up to the bar with the extra $125 bucks in hand, and let the boys in Lakewood give you the custom treatment .

I think after you take into consideration the cost of a shift kit and the time and hassle to install it $125 is well worth it to me.

Dear Bob,

Hey, no sweat, everything's cool here!

I'm glad you got it back in! I'm also very glad to hear it's still smooth on part-throttle, as I was very concerned about that. Still, be careful driving in the rain until you get used to it.

Hey, now you finally got what you wanted in the first place, eh? If I hadn't been so thick-headed to begin with, you'd have gotten it sooner! Hopefully, all's well that ends well.

Have fun chirping those tires, Bob, and thanks for your patience!

Dear ps398,

That's a good point! For some people, it may well be worthwhile, especially when you compare it to the cost, installation, and results of a shift kit.

Exactly! I would rather not crawl under the truck, drain the fluid, drop the pan, drop the valve body (where the hell did those little check ***** go), then put it back together. Sometimes I miss the old days of 429 SCJs, Toploaders, and Detroit Lockers.

Dear ps398,

429 SCJ's, YAHOO! The ultimate Ford V-8 motor, drool, drool.

You know, it's strange..... nowadays you can make that kind of horsepower with a lot less cubic inches, thanks to computer controls and a lot of other advances. Can you imagine a *modern* fuel-injected implementation of that 429 motor? Say, with a nice 2-stage computer controlled intake system like on the 4.6 DOHC engine, and a modern roller cam profile? It wouldn't be much trouble to have 600 or so very streetable horses on pump premium, I'd bet.

Hey, I can *dream*, can't I?

Mike, Well I couldn't, until now! I bought a 69 Torino just after high school that had all of my above listed goodies. I miss that car.

Dear ps398,

I was telling somebody here months ago that every once in awhile, I'll have a strange dream. In these dreams, I have every cool car I've ever had, they'll all sitting out on the lawn. So I go to each of them in my dreams, only to wake up, and *rediscover* what a nut I was for selling each of them. What I wouldn't give to have my 9-second street car just for an hour or so.... Or my little '73 Opel GT......we all have vehicles we'd love to have again, I suppose!

Thumbs up

I know what you mean on the OPEL I have one sitting in my garage right now. A 1972 GT. It's all stock and it's a darn automatic but it's still fun as heck to drive. However I have found a 72 OPEL GT with a 289 &
4-speed for $800 I just may have to get it but right now I'm trying to cope with waiting on my Chip to get here!
