Bill Bateman, true, but what I meant was think of how the dohc 4.6 in the f-150 would blow the dohc 4.7 toyota away. I think the cobra makes 320 horsepower but I don't remember the torque, but if they put that motor in the truck they would probally lose some horsepower in order to get low-end torque up.

Hey. Toyota has now added the gear ratios to the commercial. It's worst than we thought. I wasn't quick enough to make out all of the ratios but one was a 3.55.

3.55/3.916 = .906
That's a 9.4 percent pull gear rationadvantage for the Toyota instead of the 5 pervent at 3.73. I bet they couldn't out pull the 3.73s

Dear Bill Bateman,

Good detective work! I haven't seen this yet, do they bury that in the fine print at the bottom of the TV screen? I'm with you, gear for gear it won't outpull them.

Thumbs down

Concerning the toyota truck line, I have a 97 T100, and from what I've seen it doesn't look all that different from the Tundra (except I don't have those ugly extra sets of door handles). Right now I'm trying to find a good trade in of my T100 to either get a new F150 or a slightly used F150 (97 or 99). My T100 is just about mechanically sound, there are only a few things that bug me... it seems to be 'fragile' about 5 offroad trips and I'm starting to get the most annoying creaks and rattles, plus the skid guards got busted and the front valance got busted on one offroad trip. (and get this, I even got mud inbetween a tire and a rim and got a flat). ** Changing a mud-soaked tire in the mud sucks ** especially when the spare is under the bed.

The F150 is definetly more sturdy than the T100 and the Tundra. Things that strike me most about the F150 are the center console that can hold a laptop (I can't even fit a CD-player in the pathetic T100 armrest), body looks (including possible flareside), and overall ride.

And btw, the toyota service department in my area can't fix those rattles/squeaks if their life depended on it, so I'm stuck with them; and, I betcha they couldn't fix it on a tundra either.

Dear Spartan,

Thanks for your comments regarding your experiences with your Toyota.

Best of luck when you do your trade or whatever to get into an F-150, & let us know how you like it when you do!

Seems I read in a mag somewhere that the Toyota claim to be the fastest truck is BS. They didn't compare the truck to the 5.4L Ford F-150, which was officially proven by the mag to be the fastest production truck (aside from the Lightning) available (fullsize.)

Just FYI... I was running 0-60 times of 7.2 or 3 seconds with my 98 Ranger/4.0L/3.55/manual tranny.

Bad, piece of junk tranny or I'd still be driving it today...

Hi Mike,

Yeah, how well I remember how quick that thing was! We bought my wife one like yours, I think. 4.0 5-speed, with 4.10 gears, 4X4 4-door, everything but an automatic. Her's doesn't run anything like yours did though, not even close, unfortunately! Maybe Santa will help..........

Have fun,
