WELL GUYS, NEAL(the h.p freak) FINALLY SENT IT IN.
Dear Andthensometoo,
Oh, I've already heard from Neal, first thing Saturday morning, waking me up! He thought his chip wasn't working, and was in a panic!
Turns out his chip is working fine, but we probably need to make an adjustment to his upshift point and/or rev limiter to compensate for his 4:10 rear gears. The way he described it to me, it sounded like he was hitting the rev limiter *before* the upshift point, which of course doesn't help ET's! I know how much Neal was counting on being able to get into the 14's this weekend, so I'm sure he was disappointed, but it will be a simple adjustment. He hasn't driven it yet without the Superchip as of the last time I talked to him, as his computer came back with the Superchip already installed so he doesn't have a feel for what it's doing, and won't, until he pulls it out and drives it for awhile. I know when he first called me he was, shall we say, a bit "excited", and convinced that his Superchip was doing nothing, and we quickly established that it was in fact accelerating much quicker, especially at higher speeds. So we probably need to make an adjustment to the upshift point and/or rev limiter, and he'll be fine. I did ask him to go ahead and try some runs with and without the Superchip while he was at Milan, just to see what happens. He figured that the better acceleration in gear would hopefully compensate for the upshift delay problem he was having, so his best hopes for runs with the Superchip were just to match his previous times, and I don't know if that would be possible under the circumstances. Like I told Neal, it's going to be a simple adjustment, and he and I are going to be talking with Superchips on Monday. Poor Neal, he asked me if his computer would have to go back to Superchip again, and of course it doesn't. That *would* add insult to injury!
We'll get his upshifts straightened out, have no fear.

Just a note of encouragement for Neal:
Superchips WILL fix your problem! I gave them a doozy with my EGE1 code, and now I'm dreaming of places to drive to just so I can feel that Superchipped 4.6 Triton power. In fact, I need to take the wife to lunch. Bye!

I know it will be worked out, I was leaving my message vague, so as not to appear to be slamming you or the chip. (I love what the superchip does for me!) He was very good natured about the whole thing, though I suspect he won't be getting much sleep until the adjustment, being that he is the H.P freak and all.
Dear Andthensometoo,
Your post was fine, don't worry about a thing! I talked to Neal again on Sunday, woke him up as a matter of fact, poor guy! We talked about the times he ran, and I was very surprised that he got almost 4 tenths lower times with the Superchip, even with his upshift point problem! He and I had hoped for it to equal the stock times at best, but it ran 16 flat stock, and 15.62 with the Superchip, and he also got 2.5 more mph trap speed, so his Superchip is definitely adding power! Now we just need to get his upshifts taken care of, to compensate for the 4:10 gearing, is what I'm thinking. Neal mentioned that he only had the upshift problem when he took off from a standstill, as he said that if he punched it from a 40 km roll, he had no problem, and it ripped off nice quick upshifts that barked the tires in second gear each time. His short times were excellent! I'm glad you guys talked him into taking the Superchip out to see what it would do!
I'm just dying to see what his gains are going to be once the upshift point is taken care of!

Woah, Neal, those are slower times than I had expected. But, thats because of the shift points
. When you get that fixed, it should run ALOT faster. Cableguy is runnin 14.9 with a supercab! Come on Neal, ya gotta catch up

Mike Troyer,
When I get my 2000 I plan on changing the gears to 4.10s. As mine is a 5 speed manual I will have no shift problems. Will I still be able to have the rev limiter moved up to 6500 rpm as with my last chip? Would it be feasable to give it a more agressive spark curve in view of the lower gears?
Regards

Neal,
Sorry but I forgot the answer. Did Moe campbell supply the gears with the install or did you have to order them?

HI!... JMC, I bought my gears at BEAR'S PERFORMANCE. Cost me about $530.00(can). The dealers price for the gears was outragous.

Dear JMC,
That shouldn't present any kind of problem! It's just a matter of them being able to change the rev limiter, just like in your last truck. I thought you were getting a 99, you're getting a 2000? Good for you!
All the best,

Mike T,
Thanks for the info. I was even considering to move the rev limiter tp 7000 when I go to the 410 gears but I am pondering the water pump durability. I think the Mustang has a 7000 limit but the fan is electric so the stress on the pump would be less then my truck. All I need is for the pump to seize and the fan to turn into a frisebee. It would be neat to have the higher limit though, you should have heard that beast scream at 6500. ;-) BTW I corrected my signature.

JMC..... new truck huh? Cool hope it works out. Just curious...was the 97 worn out? giving you problems? or was it just and itch to get a new one? What is the reason you have you rev limiter set so high? thanks mlaugh (mike)

mlaugh,
The lease on the 97 was up, the frame was bent. I returned it in May and had ordered a 99 but circumstances made me cancell. The circumstances have been dealt with so I ordered a 2000. The rev limit is set to 6500 for climbing sand dunes. I use 3rd 4x4Lo. It eliminates shifting. Without the chip I was allways up against the 5500 limit.
