Post Question for Mike T

Hey Mike, thinking of buying Grand Prix for wife next year, is there a superchip made for them? How about one that has the supercharger? Thanks for any info.

Sorry to say that no, we do not yet have an application for the late-model GM 3.8 V-6's. We will have a kit for both the normally aspirated as well as the supercharged versions, for both the Pontiac as well as the Buicks.

GM has done a fantastic job with their Series II 3.8 V-6, we've seen that engine come from it's meager 140-hp beginings, up to it's 205 hp normally-aspirated version, and now the 240-hp supercharged vehicles. There are some different diameter boost pullies on the market for the superchargers, but other than that, nobody I know of has anything that reprograms the computers in those vehicles yet.

Thanks Mike, if you remember let me know when they come out with one. Am definetly buying the wife a Grand Prix GTP next year. It is a very fast car but I would like to get as much as possible out of it.

I recently heard that there's also a 260 horse version of the GP that has a ram air system.

That would make sense, since Pontiac seems to be back in the fresh-air mode with the Firebird.

I hate to admit it now, but, I was beaten by a GTP when my truck was new. He got a jump off the light (I didn't know he wanted to race) and he probably had a 1,200 - 1,500 pound advantage. I stayed even about a length behind until we backed off. Maybe he was a GM guy with >300 hp?

Hi Mike, On another message board I had some questions about the superchip and superchargers. As I understand, the timing must be retarded with the use of a supercharger and one of the guys said that you could do that for around $100.00. Are the shift points also modified at that time or do they remain the same? Also, do you have any figures for torque and horse power for a 4.6 with the superchip,JBA's, and Magna Flow dual exhaust and a Vortec supercharger? I have a K&N but that will have to be replaced with a different air intake. Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wolvrin- I don't know if you like Nascar racing, but Pontiac is offering a Richard Petty Edition of the GTP. It makes 300 hp from mostly ECM tuning and a increase in boost. Comes in blue with a gray lower sill. All interior appointments are done in carbon fiber(all of the dash, console, door trim). Leather seats with his signature, and a Nascar style carbon fiber rear spoiler. How's that sound?

You're right, that GTP is quite a vehicle! Gm did some testing of that platform, awhile back, and let a few of the automative magazines play with a couple of their test mules. They had that supercharged V-6 up to 330 hp, but said the front wheel drive automatic transmission couldn't take that kind of power level at that time, it's been a couple years ago now I think that this happened. So it comes to the public in 240 hp form.

At any rate, congrats on your selection, and enjoy that new supercharged beast!

Dear DHFerguson,

Could have been, but I would probably suspect more likely that he was using one of the different diameter supercharger pullies that are available for that application, and is running more boost. Those "blown" 3.8 Poncho's & Buicks can fly with a little bit of tuning. Reducing restriction on both the intake and the exhaust side really helps those cars too. They tend to run anywhere from low 15's to mid-14's, so it's not too far out of the realm of possibility.

You'll get 'em next time!

Dear Flats Man,

Yes, most custom changes are covered by the flat $100 custom programming fee that Superchip charges. They can very easily make a custom Superchip for a supercharger install, or whatever else you have going on there. Give me a call if you'd like to discuss this further, our number is below.

Bests,
