Post What Changes When Dealer Reprogams Comp

What happens to the original code when the dealer reprogams the computer? Do all of the trucks that are reprogramed get the same program? Can we go in and ask (pay) for an updated program that his the most high performance at the current time. Does reproming mean we have to have our Superchip reprogramed also?

Mike, can you shed some workd of wisdom on this?

I would assume he just rewrites the same code over the old one in case the old one has corrupt programming. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.

Ford updated my computer. And they didn't bother to tell me. But I noticed a "new" sticker under the hood. (yes, it does come in handy to pay such close attention to your truck!) So when I called Mike to get my chip I told him about the new sticker. Mike had to figure out what the new code was from a whole bunch of numbers on the sticker!!! And when He did get the code, it ended up being one he's never seen before (lucky me?) Took superchips longer to make it and longer to get to me too. What changed on my code was the last number. I can't remember the exact code but it changed this way: ABC2 was updated to ABC3. Hope this helps you all

I have a 99 so I dont think the computer has to be updated, but I did put on larger tires and want to recalibrate the speedo. Some people on the site seem to think its a computer reprogram instead of a simple gear. My question is, Does anybody know if it is and if so, do I have to remove the superchip? Thanks for any info.

What happens to the original code is that it's gone, absent, forever. For example, like Tina said, if the original code was an IMP4, then the update would usually be an IMP5. And no, your dealer *CANNOT* give you *ANY* program that is going to give you more power. All the dealer can do is to provide the latest Ford program, which is going to give the same power as before. Computers are reflashed by the dealer to fix driveability problems, primarily.

Now, for anyone whose computer has been reflashed by the dealer, your Superchip will no longer work. You will need to send it in to be updated to the new code in your computer. By law, the dealership service department is required to place a "Notice of Modification" sticker under the hood in a prominent location, so that any future technician can't miss it. They are supposed to identify the new calibration code, which can be done either by handwriting in the actual FoMoCo part number, or the full calibration code, which will start with 8-48-D, and then 3 more digits, for some codes.

Superchips isn't going to let you lose your investment in your Superchip, so any time you need an update because the dealer reflashed your computer, Superchips will do this free of charge.

Gino: Someone had posted previously that that was done on the back of the speedometer.
