Cool Stock 5.4L performance

Does anybody know what the estimated quarter mile times might be for my truck?
What other stock trucks should I look out for in races other than the lightning?

Your regcab is definitely faster than my fat-butt loaded 4x, but I still wouldn't go up against a Lightning. I had one in front of me on the freeway. We were creeping along in traffic, and I wanted to get a better look so I stayed on it. But, when the traffic broke... Man! That thing took off. I'd never seen a truck shoot away that quick. And, I'm sure he (or she) knew I was sticking behind him. It didn't even have its plates yet... and, that was about the only detail I got on that truck. Anyway, I'd just wave and smile if I see another one. As for other trucks, I've read on threads here that the Chevy 454SS is mostly show, and the Dodge R/T, that one definitely has a lot go. Good luck!

54regcab,

Guesstimate. A 4.6 like yours might run a 16.6@82mph and a V6 might run a 16.9@80mph

Unhappy

I guess I wasted my money on the 5.4L.
Only .5sec quicker than V6.
Only .2sec quicker than 4.6L
Oh well, love my truck anyway.

Cool

HI!... 54REGCAB your truck should be able to run in the neighborhood of around 15.50 to 15.80 stock. I read an article in a couple of magazines that stated that your and my truck ran consistant 15.70's at 88mph right from the factory. But the only way to find out for sure is to bring it to the dragstrip and run it.

54regcab,

Neal is probably right, they do run quick. Much faster than a 4.6 or 4.2l. Temp and weather conditions all effect the way our trucks perform. And no way is the 5.4 a waste!

15.7sec I can live with that.
I'll have to find a dragstrip around here and try it sometime.
I'm sure it will be a blast.
Anybody know 0-60 times?

You would be hard pressed to get 15.7seconds. Most dakota r/t's are good for low 16's. Check out the new october issue of truck trend doing the comparison against the lightning.

About the quickest 5.4 we've heard of stock would be a 4X2 short cab, and you'd be very lucky to break into the 15's at all, perhaps a 15.9. We do have a member here with that configuration who is now running 14.9's, and ran about a second slower stock, and that's the vehicle I'm referring to. A heavy 4X4 5.4 is probably going to be in the mid to low 16's, I'm guessing. The V-6's tend to run in the low to mid 18's stock, and about a second quicker with the Superchip.

I hope that helps,

Cool

My 4.2L auto runs 16.48 @ 83 in the quarter at Milan Dragway, not the best hooking track.

Regcab54,

I have a best run of 16.29 @ 84.77 1/4 mile with the SuperChip and I would not take any bets beating a '99 5.4 in any configuration except maybe the big ORP. I have a curb weight of 4500 lbs @ 1/2 tank of gas.

I don't know where they are getting low 16s on Dakota R/Ts 'cause I tried a '99 on for size some weeks ago and I got literally SMOKED! This dude was positively a 15 second flat 1/4 miler ..... and of course I had no way of knowing any mods he had.
